Help with reformatting partitioned HD back to C and going from XP back to Win2000

I installed XP pro but my 5670 crashes after each level of Battlefield 1942. I have the current drivers that came with the 5670: DirectX 9.0a and 128MB M9.

I want to install Windows 2000 professional as my OS since BF1942, never crashed even at the highest resolution when I had Windows 1942. Since my hdd is partitioned, it has been a hassle for me.

Can someone please post on how I can F/disk (whatever that means but I found it in another post) or reformat my HDD all over again so I can install the Windows 2000 Professional. That operating system was much more user friendly or I am more comfortable with it anyways.

I have already backed up any files to the CDR and now just want to start over with 2000 profesional.

The sooner the better becasue I can't sleep tonight untill my 5670 stops CRASHING! Thanks in advance.

Just boot from your 2000 CD and select the options that will install a new os, and you can delete/create a partition and reformat then install.

Sorry, but when you mean boot off 2000professional what exactly do you mean. Do i have to hit F2 or some key when it loads or do I have to create a boot disk; if so where can I create one?

I put Windows 2000 professional into the DVD/CD-ROM and windows tells me that I already have an upgraded version OS (XP Pro) so it will not let me install 2000.

So I think I need to clean out the HD, I know it can be done I just don't know how to do that. When My sager caem with no OS it was a cinch to insall windows 2000 professional and all the dirver in under 3 hours.

Thanks for any help in advance.

First, boot into BIOS via F2 when you turn on the machine, then check to make sure that the BOOT ORDER includes the CD-Drive FIRST (before HD / Floppy).

Then, put the Windows 2000 CD in and restart... when the message comes up (at the bottom of the screen) that says to "Press any key to boot from CD..." press a key.

Let it run through it's setup (about 2-5min.) and then it will ask if you want to REPAIR or INSTALL (actually, I'm not sure w/ XP if 2000 sees it as a valid windows installation, since it's older).

Anyway, the main thing is to select INSTALL NEW. The next screen or so, you will be asked what partition to install to, DELETE the partition with WinXP on it, the Create a new partition and format it (formatting NTFS in Win2K takes a long time, as there is no Quick Format option).

Then follow the steps to install the OS from there (Win2K takes much longer than XP to install, so be warned).

Once the OS is up, install your drivers in the order prescribed in your user's manual.
