Logitech MX510

Thread Starter
I just picked up the new gaming logitech MX510 today. I had read a review on it and it looked worth the price, $50.00.
It is exactly like the review, Perfect for fragging. The out-of-the-box settings just wouldn't do. The speed was really low, but you could just twitch ur hand and the cursor would be on the other side of the sreen. But i reset the settings and now it is perfct, it has great response time also. I got the red one, i would have gotten blue to match my system, but i like red better. It has a cool swirley design in it.
If u have the extra cash, its worth a buy IMHO.

Quite expensive. More (by approximately $3.00) than the MX700 rechargeable I picked up a while ago.

the pixel capture rate(correct terminology?) of a mouse has little to do with it's DPI, how lmuch you have to move the mouse to get it to the otherside of the screen is based on DPI, the DPI on an MX510 is only 800 compared to the Razer Viper which is 1000 and the Razer Boomslang Speed which is 2100. The MX510 has a 5.8MP image processing capability...(I'm not sure about this...correct me if I am wrong) this means that is more accurate than the Razers or other mice however it does not mean that it will get across your screen any faster. However the MX510 is a great gaming mouse (mostly through compensation) because it has 8 programmable buttons and it's incredibly accurate...by the by....what color did you get?

It's definitely a great mouse. I just got the blue one and this thing is super accurate and sensitive. I wouldn't recommend a cordless mouse for serious gaming, their must be some bit of lag.

K[H] I think your mistaken, the 5.8 mega pixel(5800) res. of the 510 is exactly that, compared to the 1000/2100 of the razors. Where did your get 800 from??? Furthermore, capture/processing speed is also a factor, another area where the 510 has no equal. And lastly, the software engine that interprets the captured information is also important and the MX engine again has no equal.

Emerald: I hope your using your new mouse w/ a quality gaming pad!!!! Otherwise its like dating Carmen Elecktra but never having sex with her! A gaming mousepad makes a difference, I recomend the fUnc pad AW sells, or the RatPadz GS from HardOCP!!! There are a couple of others, but you cant go wrong with these 2.

The 800 DPI comes from several hardware sites (including overclockersclub.com and others) who have claimed it as tha....5800 DPI is ridiculus and unneccesary, that means if you move your mouse 1/5" then it will get from the top of a 1680x1050 screen to the bottom....5800 is the pixel capture rate meaning it analyzes 5800 pixels every second, meaning it is more accurate....

As for your statements I will agree with you but I also want to add to that. The quality and power of a mouse also depends on the friction between the mouse and the mousing surface. While this is primarly based on the mousing surface, the plastic feet of the MX510 is no match for the teflon coated ones on the Razer....we're talking zero acoustic feedback....The connection between the port and the actual device is also key in performance. The MX510 has a metal USB connector which is no match for the optimum conduction of the gold plated connector of the Razer. The grip and style of the mouse is important in gaming as well. The ambidexterous design and rubber grip non-slip buttons are far superior to the MX510 right handers only design with it's plastic buttons.

and I wouldn't reccomend a wireless mouse for gaming either....horrible response times...

You know, except at lan parties. I game on a MX 700 and have had NO problems with response times.

One thing I've noticed is that you have to find that sweet spot for setting up the receiver though, otherwise no dice.

Man I think we all need to, "get a life" or "get laid", who would of thought we'd be debating over a mouse like a Ferrari against a Porsche.

Unless your girlfriend likes the pleasure only a high-quality mouse can provide . . .

Right that's the thing....it's really hard to tell the difference between 8 and 15 milliseconds....but it still exists...in the long run there will be a difference....or maybe I'm just over-pysched about this stuff

Although I don't take offense to these kinds of comments, I do find such stereotypes rude. I might know a thing or two about computers and such but that doesn't mean I don't get out much. I'd like to think I have a fairly active social life, I go out with friends, I have fun without computers, however I do have a passion. Now if that passion is too overwhelming then I would suggest not entering a conversation about it. Again, these things don't phaze me too much, but how would you like it if I said you had no sense of style because you bought a Dell XPS....I understand your humor, and I probably shouldn't take it so hard, but I think that people do take comments like that seriously, and thats how stereotypes are created.

For someone who does not take offense you're very defensive...

Get a life...

Well if you read my post correctly you would have realized that I included myself in that comment, that's why I used the term, "we" and not, "you".
