My friend wants to upgrade his laptops gf card because its the only crappy thing on it, and we're having problems finding some retails stores like best buy with them on their site, because we need some prices, preferable cheaper ones, like under $100.

best place...

e-bay...

You can find anything here - better do some research into the card you want and price it at pricewatch.com

Is it an upgradable laptop graphics card? I heard certain Dell models allowed this, but it wasn't without it's share of headaches.

hmm, looks like I got moved.

but we cant find it on ebay either, hes ideally looking for like a mobility radeon 9k 64mb ddr. And I dont know if it is possible to or not, im not to famliliar with laptops, all I know is its a toshiba satellite.

I dont see how it wouldnt be possible to upgrade the chip, even if it was soldered on there.

but what do I know hehehe

Even if it was soldered, it would need to be AGP4x compatible, laptops are very propietary (until the dawn of the m10)
I doubt the laptop card is upgradeable, try contacting toshiba for that, as for finding laptop graphic cards on retail stores, i seriusly doubt it, unless it's a mobility radeon 9600 FlextFit compatible laptop...which arent out yet.

Mmmm... I know for a fact that Dell laptops can have their vid cards upgraded with certain caveats, obviously I won't go into details here since you have a Toshiba.

I think the best bet is to try searching around groups.google.com to see if there are any threads around regarding upgrading the vid card for your lappie. If it can be done, your best bet is probably to find the spare parts phone number for Toshiba and see if you can order off them. I have a feeling that just buying a mobility radeon from Ebay would not work even if it was for sale, as the vid card pcb's might be different sizes for different lappies and you'll probably need a Radeon for your particular lappie for it to fit where your old one went.
