Laptop security at college?

Thread Starter
I'm going to West Virginia University in the fall and don't know how to keep my laptop safe in my dorm.

What about when I go to the bathroom or leave for an hour? Should I be expected to lock it up in my closet or safe every time?

What about when I leave for a weekend? When I sleep?

Is there some kind of desk lock, or some other device to keep my $2000 investment safe?

Thanks in advance!

Woah...Darwin...I'll be starting my frosh year attending WV Wesleyan...we'll be practically right next door...so in the event your laptop does get stolen...I'll rush over in my Batmobile to save it.

well if ur a smart student then u will lock ur door when u leave, sleep eat etc.

if u have a roommate and ur notebook is gone guess who stole it.

actually the campus is safe..i know plenty of ppl who doesnt have any locks on their laptops and its fine..the only worry would be goign to the library or something..or if ur on the first floor and someone breaks ur window.

if ur smart about safety u dont need a lock..but always handy to have.

Yeah, it doesn't hurt to have it locked up and it will bring peace of mind if you're at all worried about it. Hit up ebay, i just bought a kensington microsaver for 18 shipped.

Your dorms have/you're bringing a safe? Hmm...I'm going to USC and just starting to research laptops. So confused, haven't even though about security, although I heard that is an issue.

i was just thinking where would be the best place to hide my laptop. I was thinking with the kensington cables and then on the floor. If I am gone for a weekend. NEver do that. Just remembered there was a problem with a pipe in the bathroom. Flooded the dorms. Sucked and smelled. Thank goodness I was not in that one but just letting you know.
