NuShield installed

So the NuShield screen protection arrived today. The install was a lot harder than I thought. Since the screen attracts from static electricity, dust easily gets on it during install.
To install, you first remove the protection film off, then you "fit" the shield on your LCD screen. It's actually a few milimeters bigger than the actual screen, because the overlap should be sliding under the LCD housing. The HARD part is, installing it without any fingerprints and dust. I used gloves and a soft tissue and I still had a hell of a time getting it on clean. ONE speck of dust is easily visible since the screen is black. After 4-5 tries I was satisfied, there was still a little dust under but its almost impossible getting it on without any.

So the final word is, recommended. It gives the screen a real cool glossy look. The 5690 UXGA screen is awesome as it is, but now it looks like super-quality. (the screen gloss was one MAIN reason I got NuShield). In addition to the screen looking awesome, my precious UXGA screen is now protected from getting any sort of scratches. I have a flat panel LCD for my desktop and I scratched it bad just from having a pen scrape it lightly, and I mean, LIGHTLY. These screens are ultra-sensitive to scratches.
Conclusion: If you like screen gloss and/or you really want your screen protected... NuShield works great.

i think i may need to get this, but i dont like the idea of something not adhering to the screen, and instead being wedged between the LCD and the housing.

i thought PDA screen covers don't leave any residue? i'm not talking about the ones that fit in between the edges, i mean the ones that you apply while taking out the air bubbles

No the NuShield screen just floats above the screen, there is no glue or anything. It clings by static so it doesnt feel flimsy, in fact once you have it on it doesn't look like there's anything on the screen. Just feels like a new LCD surface

One of the guys at work bought something similar and stuck it on an old ~450mhz laptop and the screen looked nice!

Tempted to do it myself if I could material big enough to fit my screen.

You should contact them, if you have your exact screen dimensions they will cut a custom piece for you.

I wonder how that will look on the already shiny surface of the 8790 screen. By the way, nice pic Amir. It look similar to my screen. I love the glossy screen of the 8790.

It looks like on the NuShield website you have to order it for a specific model. Which do you order it for so it fit the 5690 screen?

I don't have the ultra-shiny WSXGA screen so it'd probably help me out. I don't know if it'd look good or help at all w/ the newer WSXGA screen, though.

Hell, for only $10-$15 for this thing, you got nothing to lose

I wouldn't "go there" for the WSXGA+ screen; however, might take a look at it for my old machine (the one I gave to my wife). The WSXGA+ is a real good "looker" and I would not want to do anything to mar that. I'd check it out if you have the WXGA+ for the 8790. Makes black "real black" and impoves the readability of everything - IMHO.

I asked Nushield about getting one for my 8790 clone, but they told me that they didn't have anything available for the 17" widescreen

The person I talked to asked my screen dimensions to make a custom one. Maybe you talked to an idiot? They custom cut screens for customers.
