Hey, I was looking for a review of the Cx5 by Hypersonic - Page 2

My expected ship date is still 3 weeks away, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now. Who knows - maybe they'll surprise me yet!
Ya, I read the reviews as I said and over half of them were delayed etc.. But if you also read the reviews, the people love the customer service, love the computers, and.. *poke*

Wow. Really, really informative. Thanks for the constant check ups on my thread guys. I think I understand this much better.

Two things though.

I read in a review of the Radeon 9700 something I didn't understand. The reviewer used a laptop thats "native" (?) screen size was 1400x1050. He said this in a negative way, as if it almost interfeared with the results of the test. What did he mean?

Also, my brother has an Apple Powerbook. It has the nice metal, case. I really like the feel of that in my hands. It looks to me like the Compal CL56 has a plastic case (from discountlaptops.com at least) while the hypersonic's one is metal, and navy colored as well. Can anyone tell me if this is true or not? I'm inclined to buy the hypersonic over the Cl56 or the Battalion for this reason. Is it just the lighting?

If I'm wrong, and those 3 are plastic, anyone know of a comparable laptop (price/weight) with metal casing?

Thanks again.

yeah that's a very high resolution, so it will slow things down if you run it at that. And all CL56s are the same, that's just lighting. The case is plastic with brushed aluminum.

interesting reviews at resellerratings.com

I don't know what to think. I like the blue color of the hypersonic... but its not really worth the extra 150 dollars

Although... the customer service is amazing there.... And I might need that. I'm not very good with laptops yet. This'll be my first

The CL56 is metallic blue at ibuypower as well; the quality of the picture on the site isn't that good.
yup, in a nutshell they are all the same laptops. Most of them probably source from the same distributors too.
now if you get the hypersonic CL56, it does have several coats and paint and a clear coat on it, so it will feel more sturdy, not like plastic, but more like metal...it won't be, but it will feel that way...and it will look that way so in theory you could lie
post #28 of 113
does even the standard hypersonic cl56 come with paint? i know it's an option to have "reflexive" paint, but they cost like 350 more. is the "metallic navy" or whatever (the cheapest one) from hypersonic the same as the finish on the ibuypower cl56?
yes, its the same as all the others
thank the lord. that just would have been one more reason for me to debate spending more for hypersonic over ibuypower .

the native resolution of an lcd is the optimal resolution it was designed to run at. thus you will get best results viewing at this res as opposed to a lower res (for ex 1024x768); it may appear blurry or otherwise altered if you try to change it.

Thanks again.
the asus w1 is aluminum. only has 64mb of vram currently compared to 128mb of the cl56 plus you will pay a large price for it.

It looks like Hypersonic is getting my money. Ibuypower.com is very enticing, but I've heard some very very bad things about them. It's 180 dollars less @ Ibuypower.com, but the pain you have to go through just to get it or to fix it seems horrible.

It's really too bad.

Any last words of wisdom before I drop $2000 on a laptop?

GO FOR IT!!! I don't think you'll regret it!
I love my CX5...

Based on my reading, I think I'd probably disagree. Sounds like the people who have received laptops with thermal pads and replaced them with Artic Silver have met with positive results.

positive results stemming from the placebo effect yes.

Hey, erm, sorry to be a moron here, but whats the difference between a Banias and a Dothan Pentium-M?
banias = 1 mb l2 cache
dothan = 2 mb l2 cache

Good luck with the laptop, i went with the cl56 from ibuypower and it's amazing. I can run any half-life or steam based games at native res and its pegged at 100fps all the time. Runs farcry and halo just fine at lower resolutions with other settings on high.

Doesn't sound like you are still considering ibuypower but if you are, my experiance wasn't terrible. They told me they had the 1.8 dothan in stock, but this was not the case... took a little longer to get it shipped but they gave me a free shipping upgrade. The cl56 is great and looks much better in person that most of the pics i have seen.

Thank you for commenting. I'll reiterate myself once again. AS is no big deal. Your laptop CL56 will run very smoothly without it. It is not needed; it is a luxury.

Nobody has recommended that?
