Hey, I was looking for a review of the Cx5 by Hypersonic - Page 5

if somebody offered me a BMW 760Li for 50,000...
i didn't give much credence to the guy who wrote that review you mentioned. seems like he bought a cheap system and didn't know a whole lot about computers. first he starts saying something about the HD not being mounted securely but doesn't mention anything about returning it because of this problem... then something about spending 2 days with tech support just to identify a defective card... i'm guessing a PCI card? the fact that they spent 2 whole days trying to help this guy who sounds pretty abrasive probably suggests their support is decent =D

customer pays for shipping of all defects, it's written a million times over in their warranty policies. i'm not sure why he expected them to make an exception for him.

like i said before, there isn't much that goes into assembling a cl56, so there's uh no "hd mounting pins to break" if i guess that's what you're concerned about. i'm not trying to make light of your concerns, they may be very large ones for you. i'm just saying they're really not for me and a lot of other people that do DIY out there occasionally. for us, we know what things are messed up when defects occur, and so long as we just can send it back it's not that big of a deal.

ill stick by my $400 =)

if someone offered me a new beemer760 for 50,000... haha you got my point turanuk =D with that ill go to bed
post #83 of 113
ehhhhhh yeah well, I'm a DIY and I still wouldn't buy from them...I smell used parts again...actually best case scenario all their stuff is stolen so that's okay i guess...

Here is a Clicky of the original post. The posters name is fven2ra... hes ~ at the middle of the page. I tried to shorten it instead of posting the whole thing. If he sounds abrasive, thats my fault for shortening it that way, or... well.. hes pissed off. He's venting <--- Kinda like that dude. He seems to know his way around computers. He says he was helping the techs, instead of the techs helping him. "After spending hours over the course of two days on the phone with tech support I ended up solving most of the problems myself" Just in case it needed clarification.

Well, It's too bad you had to go to bed... I do too, but if you check this post in the morning.. I'd like to thank you for helping me out so much with my system. Thanks for not treating me like a moron because I'm not as technically experianced as you. It's given me a good deal to think about. It's all a bit complicated but I hope ultimately, it'll turn into simplicity and not complexity. I know thats what you were trying to do.

Either way...

Rock on

no problem, i'm all for a good debate. hopefully you got some useful info out of it =)

you can't go wrong with hypersonic for what you need, i just wanted you to know of another option that i am considering myself.

what's mwave's dead pixel policy?

No idea. Probably 5 or more.

I did some more research...

The mwave's warranty is 30 day money back. Other than that, you send it to the manufacturer. I don't know how well they do that. Hypersonic's is onsite, send for 0 cost for the buyer back to Hypersonic, replace components etc, send back for free.

They don't have the 7200 RPM drive I want. Hypersonic does.

Mwave's processor is Banias, not Dothan. Hypersonic's is Dothan. That matters.

Hypersonic also has a prettier case.

Basically, the Hypersonic's will be faster. Probably very noticeable. They have a better warranty.

Just so you know, if you do consider buying from mwave. Tommrorow I'll be calling Hypersonic to sorta inquire if there is anything else I don't know about that makes them better. It is approx. $450 dollars less at mwave. I want to see what they have to say. I'm a bit timid, but I'll try my best to be assertive. Update tommorow.

Talk amongst y'selves.

EDIT: eh...nevermind
mwave will fix defective systems u send back to them without sending back to the manufacturer; a guy that just ordered for them said so
post #90 of 113
Read their policy more closely. It clearly says: "Due to manufacturer's policies, Mwave.com can not accept refunds or returns on All Software, Game Titles, Retail Boxed Processors, Notebooks...."

No returns, no refunds (i.e. ALL SALES FINAL!!!)

mwave does fix in house within 1 year warranty period.

who told you that? they have the Dothan. I ordered mine with 1.7gh dothan

I believe he was referring to the 7200RPM HD making it a faster system, not a faster ship.

I ordered my Compal 56 from InternetiShop a week ago Tuesday night and recieved it three days later on Friday. No dead pixels and they were great to deal with. If you order online make sure you take advantage of the 3% members discount, you just have to fill out a form. Configuration as follows, also thanks to all the posters who helped me make my decision, Rincewind, Turanek, etc.

1.7 Dothan
1 Gb RAM
60GB 7200 drive
DVD RW/CD RW
Intel PRO Wireless - works awesomely by the way

i'm pretty sure they mean this case: you buy one of their systems that works perfectly and then try to send it back after using it for 20 days (what a lot of people do around here).

mwave is definitely a classy place, if you don't want to take my opinion on it just ask mix about his conversations with them. they're also not a stupidily run company, if you buy something from them and it does everything they said it would do, they're not going to give you your money back just because you don't like it.

If you look under their warranty, it is very specific in stating you must send it to the manufacturer. Someone posted that already.

They don't have the 7200 rpm's either. I was saying that the Hypersonic's laptop would be faster in gaming, pulling up programs... everything, except perhaps shipping. I am not saying mwave/chembook does or does not do burn ins, (I believe it isn't stated) while Hypersonic does. I appreciate that. Also, I am sure people have gotten lappy's without dead pixels. With Hypersonic, they will make sure your notebooks has 3 or less. This doesn't apply to mwave.

No offense to your laptop or choice in companies, but I simply don't trust InternetIShop. I am glad you got your laptop working VERY well, and didn't have to go through the hassle a lot of other people went through by using their services. I hope you don't have any troubles with your laptop you can't fix.

$400
If u got a lappy from mwave, Aikeo, would you purchase a faster HD? upgrade anything else? Then your ~$400 savings just droped. Plus, alot of the time, a piece of mind can be worth 300-400 dollars...

A purchase from mwave seems a great idea if you (a) like to live dangerously (low warenty, dead/stuck pixel) (b) cheap (c) end user that can do almost anything by-themselves...comfortably. I'm not trying to persuade anyone to go either way; I felt more comfortable buying from hypersonic. Thats my god-given choice and It's my money to "waste" "blow" or use "smartly(I think there is a better term for this, I'm too lazy to find it however)". To each his own...
nope its not worth $400 to me that's 30% of the total system cost =D
5400 rpm doesn't bother me that much. if i really really needed to i'll just buy a 7k60 and sell the 5400 on ebay. probably a $100 outlay there. that's the only upgrade that's different from any other vendor you'll find out there

hypersonic is a good choice, can't go wrong there

i don't have a lot of money so anywhere i can save it is good for me

i would be curious to see how many people who bought the cl56 also got an extended warranty =0
i can already tell you the ibuypower people were SOL in that regard
post #99 of 113

SOL?

BTW, It's the warranty... I can't do that sorta stuff on my own. I need tech support. I talked to them today... a very nice (a bit soft spoken) man talked to me. He said that at Hypersonic, all they do is buy the shell from the ODM. They then buy all their components, check each one, and then install them. They make sure everything is in working order, and do a 72 hour burn-in. Their warranty is much better than anything that mwave offers (first yr its manufacter's warranty, then if u buy mwave's EXTENDED WARRANTY, they'll do the second year on-site.) Shipping, components is all paid by Hypersonic. It is at 0 cost (other than time, which... from what I hear, is very quick. I live decently close to Hypersonic, so its good for me ) Mwave will make you pay for shipping, you loose costs saved there.

EDIT: I also asked him about any news on the X600 graphics card. I told him that ECS is offering a notebook with X600 that'll be due out in September. He said although that might be true, it will probably be pretty buggy to rush it out like that. Although they released that press... release... chances are it won't be out till the Christmas season. Hypersonic gets their stuff pretty quickly he said, so they should have something with the card ASAP. ( I want me lappy now, so I won't be getting the X600 )

An even bigger problem:

Mitac 8050 or Compal Cl56?
