My Aviator CX5 (compal CL56)

Well, it isn't technicaly mine yet, but I ordered one today. Its been a rough trip, but hopefuly I made the right choice. If I don't like it I can always return it anyway (just looked at the warenty thing again, didn't see anything reguarding this...uhh woops?). I find it funny that I found these forums in january because I wanted a sager, and still did up until a week ago. Sundenly I realized that I need a "portable" lappy for college and one that doesn't work as a radiator or a airplane take off simulator. I still hope to get a sager in the future, when I will be desktop shopping next year, not lappy shopping. anyway, here's the specs...

Yea, kinda expensive, but the sager i wanted was ~3.5k.

I decided to choose hypersonic over the other resellers because of the dead-pixel peace of mind, I felt that more attention would be paid to it, and time really isn't a factor (well, nething >2 months).

Im half worrying about the purchase, and half excited. Im worrying because I spent 3+ months thinking a particular laptop was the one for me (SAGER8790), 2 weeks thinking the 5690 was the one for me, but less then a month to decide to purchase the CL56(plus ONE DAY to choose who to purchase from, it took only mins after i made the decision to go hypersonic). I just hope I made the right choice and that I am just not fickle.
I'll keep ya all tuned in to the steps of the order I am in and so forth (even if you don't want to, bwa ha ha ha) and eventualy the Review. I have nothing better to do while I wait anyways ><. hopefully this will also serve as some sort of time table for future CX5 owners.

I couldn't see how I could spend .4k for red or blue. black, white or something and I would have..

Relax, I got a CX5 for my son with almost the exact same specs as yours. It shipped 15 days after ordering, arrived in perfect shape with no dead pixels. My son will also be using it at University is extemely happy with it. (He has spent hours playing Counter Strike on line with it.)

Just checked the Order Status tab, and a few items were updated. Evidently they have begun to build my system before they accepted my payment...odd (Used a credit card as payment, I would save a whole 14 bucks if I did wired or cashiers check. The credit card piece of mind is worth the 14 bucks imo). Plus they moved the ship date 6 days. Oh well, I'll live.

counterstrike on a radeon 9700? that just sounds wrong...

lol, my current computer had some difficulties with counterstrike, its 5-6 years old. You make it sound like the CL56 will blow my desktop out of the water (I hope this is correct ).

Yeah, they marked mine "built/testing" 2 days before it was "accepted" as well. Too bad HS doesn't do phases like AW. Built/testing is so vague...

Geez man, I got the same specs but I only spent $1700

Including a dead-pixel guarantee and paint job (not to mention 72-hour burn in or AS5)? I doubt it.

What retailer?

/shrug, mebe its a place ive never heard of... I've configed the same lappy on at least 4 other sights and the difference was 100-200... Keep in mind that I got dvd RW (don't have on currently), extra year of warenty, 7,200 rpm HD, Dothan and other goodies...
Sorry, Mine's without custom paint, burn in, os. I got mine from MWave and they assured me no dead pixels. I installed my own OS since I would reinstall even if it came with. My credit card added 2years to my 1year warentee.
you bought an mwave cl56? how'd you get a 7200 rpm drive in there, i dont see the option. so you now have a 3 yr warranty through mwave? you can send it back to them to get fixed?
whoops, my bad 5400rpm. Warentee is still 1 year, my credit card adds 2, so I'm guessing after the 1 year, the card company will pay to fix it or replace it.
they assured you no dead pixels on arrival? i didnt see this policy on their site

what credit card did you use
you're assured one dead pixel maximum if you don't pay 49 dollars.
what? this is mwave im talking about not hypersonic. i'm asking scottd about the system he bought from there

My shipment date has been changed again. it was changed to 7/5/2004. i haven't heard of hypersonic giving an earlier date than what was stated in the begining. 10 days is pretty significant... oh well, shouldn't complain.
hmm, i checked out hypersonic regarding the cl56 several times and almost bought from them, then i found powernotebooks.com . I got their cl56 with all of the goodies for a bit less than hypersonic. They also do the no dead pixel thing for free if you just ask in the buying process. the sales guy emailed me and confirmed the no dead pixel check during their burn in and testing phase. i think that they have their act together over there and all the customer support reviews that i have read about them seem to support this assumption. I ordered online on sunday, receieved a payment verification tuesday morning, and was told it will be shipped by friday!! Im impressed. Here are my specs:

M Dothan, 2.0
9700 ati mobility 128mb
1 gig pc2700 RAM
7200 hitachi 60 gig, with 8mb cache
gigabite turbo wifi G
Win XP

I cant wait to get it. I'll post an updated review when it gets here.

::UPDATE::
I just got an email from powernotebooks telling me that my notebook is scheduled for UPS delivery (ground) by Friday. That means 5 business days from giving the cred card number (not even confirmation) to delivery. amazing.
