PCPitstop benchmark

I scored a 1434 on PCPitstop.com. I have an 8887 with a 2.8P4, 1gig RAM, 60gig hd, 128MB vid card, etc. It's a nice site and easy to register and store your results I bet a 3.06Mhz would rock on that site.

I just ran the tests and got a 5569 on the System speed ratings. Is that what you're referring to?

Not quite...

I ran the full tests to get my 1434 rating. The test you are referring to is just one of the tests that runs in the PCPitstop suite of benchmarks. My System speed rating was 5094.

Here is the link to my test:

I ran the full tests, but anonymously. I saved the results pages and I'll see if I can find the overall score.

Guess I didn't get, or save, an overall score. I hate registering for every little thing, thus the anonymous.

Maybe I'll give it another shot when I get a chance. Some of my scores are higher and some are significantly lower. I've been on a tune-up quest lately, hope I'm not going in the wrong direction!

Anonymous is fine

If you run the tests anonymously you still get an overall score. The only benefit that I've noticed so far to registering is that the site keeps track of your scores for you over time which is kind of nice. If you install a new driver or fix or something and you think your system is faster but you're not sure, you can always go back to the site and test and compare to see what's really going on. Good luck!

Not to worry

I wouldn't worry too much about your score. The site does a nice job of offering tips on how to get your score up and I've tried quite a few of them not only on my laptop but on PCs at work and at my parents and they all worked flawlessly. There are some fixes that they recommend buying software for such as spyware but I just go to www.lavasoft.de and get good ole Adaware and it works just fine. I'm sure that if you tweaked your system and maybe stopped some of your background progs from running then you'd get close to 1600. Have fun!

I'll check out your suggestion. I've been using Tweak-XP from Tweak-XP.com , which has a GREAT adblocker and popup blocker (gets MOST of 'em). I also use System Mechanic (evaluation so far), and recently discovered tweaktown.com .

Groovy

I use Tweakxp as well. It's a really groovy program. It's been awhile since I used there adblocker and popup blocker program. I've been using Popup Stopper Free edition and I've really enjoyed it. I'll have to check out tweaktown. Good luck tweaking!

MIPS 3722 x 1/20 = 186.1
Video 135x32bpp=4327Mb/s x 1/30 = 144.25
Memory 6185MB/s x 1/10 = 618.5
R/W small 468MB/s x 1/2 = 233.96
R/W large 6.3MB/s x 1 = 6.33
Total 1189

I've got a 8887, 3.06GHz+HT, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD. I shut down nearly everything. what gives? Where's my machine falling short of a 1400
post #13 of 17
Different aren't they? Here's my list:
5589...............................5569
79x32bpp=2526.............72x32bpp=2314
6397...............................6898
526.................................527
2.2..................................2.2
Total 1269......................Total 1301 (incl. -10 flag IE cache large)

My MIPS are high, Video low (!?), large R/W slow. Whazzup!

for another reference, here's the score from my XP1800+ with geforce3

4601 1/20 230.05
178 MP/s x 32 bpp =5711 Mb/s 1/30 190.368
3965 1/10 396.5
389 1/2 194.545
2.4 1 2.44

1014

not bad for 18mths old. By Moore's Law, i shoudl be 1/2 the top of the line in performance.

Joe

ps turning off outlook gained me another 4 points, increaseing every score slightly

Why are my MIPS so low? I ran it again and shutdown as much as I could think of and STILL only got a ~4150.
Would my Win2k OS vs. XP be the difference? This thing feels fast but I have to measure it against its peers not the PIII-800 it replaced.

Here's the link to my PC Pitstop results for my 8887. At first I had a score of 1366. I followed their tips and ran again and got the final score of 1422.

If you want to see all the details of my 3Ghz 8887 with the HT enabled, click the 'detailed summary' on that results page and it will show all the goodies! It would appear that the hard drive transfer rates are incorrect. They are obviously way too high on this test. I would guess the hyperthreading is causing the error.
Later on I'll redo my Windows XP with hyperthreading off to see if there's a difference in the test results

This is a link to my PC Pitstop results for my all-SCSI desktop workstation. It's an Athlon XP 1800+ with less memory (took some out to test another computer) and an old Geforce3 videocard, but it slays my 8887 in every way, shape and form except with 3D gaming. This is mostly due to the high speed hard drives I have in the desktop. But the test score is a lot lower than my 8887, showing that it's not a foolproof way to compare different computers. I Just wanted to point out that you shouldn't feel bad if you decide to test your laptop and desktop and find the results aren't what you're expecting

Thanks for the link to that site, GaitherStephens! I'll use it to tune up the computers at work
