Im am trying to decide between the two and I cant seem to find me many reviews about the compaq presario r3000z, so I just wanted to know what you guys think.

there's no competition that the M6805 will be a better gamer. It uses the ATI 9600 64mb video card while the Compaq uses an outdated Nvidia gpu. Other than that, they're essentially the same lappys except you can customize the compaq with a faster HDD.

i wouldn't say the R3000z is terrible for gaming:

but it's true that the ati9600 is a better card. what is the price differential you are looking at?

keep in mind that the m6805 is a thinner / lighter machine also.

I didn't say it would be a terrible gamer. However, it doesn't use as good of a gpu as the emachines and thus will not offer as good of performance. Go with the emachines handsdown. The black looks very nice. I almost bought one myself but couldn't settle on the M10

"i wouldn't say" is just an expression in this case...
like "the r3000z is good at gaming but i wouldn't say it's the best"
it's a personal qualifier, not a target phrase towards you.

anyway the compaq looks pretty sweet, the silver is really nice-- i'm actually not sure which machine looks better. i wouldn't go with the emachines if it was, for example, $300 more than the r3000z.

i think they compare like this in the weight/size --> 1.8 '' vs 1.6'' , 8.0 vs. 7.5 lbs

You can also customize the r3000 with a higher resolution screen (wsxga+ or wuxga). Emachines you are limited to wxga.

Why does everyone around here assume that every notebook needs to be able to play games?

edit: oh WHY...didn't read question. Because when you pay for something that is worth twice as much as a desktop with a radeon 9800 pro, you expect it to be at least as good.

agreed. When you're going to shell out a lot of money, you want it to be able to do more than word processing and age of empires.

Well, if you dont need a notebook to play games why would anyone look at these chuncky ones instead of something smaller and lighter?

maybe the guy wants to future-proof with the 64bit cpu. its agreed that the emachines is a better gamer. however, the 3000z (which i think i will be getting) is an awesome system for the money. So the GPU is a little weak, but if you have no complaints about changing the game settings just a bit for better framerates...why not go for it. PS. see my config...you can pick that up with a 3200+ (not the 3000+ i have listed) for around $1100 (buy it with only 256 ram and stick more later yourself)
