Decide what you really want out of your laptop. Killer looks or Killer performance and quality.
Looks - Sentia
Performance - IBM
Quality - IBM
Reliability - IBM
Size - IBM
Battery life - IBM
Support - IBM
IBM may cost a lot, but there is a reason for it.
Performance - you say the IBM? In what regards? Please don't say that it is a "real" GPU. The ATI Mobility RADEON 7500 although considered a good card is the only option for the T41. I will hear the arguement that the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 is lacking, but much of the bad press has been based on the reputation of the older Intel Extreme card.
There is not much difference between the specs of the 2 laptops compared, except for the GPU. Before I got my Sentia I asked in this forum which would be better, a 32 MB GPU or an Intel Extreme 2. The answer I got was in favor of the Intel. Apples and oranges comparison - I know. But this is the subject of the forum.
IMB T41 LCD Native Resolution is 1024-by-768. Can't seem to find where the limitation is. Not sure if it is the GPU or the LCD itself. (Appears to be the LCD)Either way it is a limitation. I have grown accustomed to 1400x1050.
Don't get me started on the eraser clit cursor controller. Has anyone ever mastered the control of that thing before wearing it out like a pencil eraser? Yes I know there is the touchpad, but why so redundant with mouse controller? Does anyone really prefer the clit? Er, maybe a different subject all together.
Quality - I will say that I have not seen the T41, but I have seen oter IBM models. The build quality on the models that I have seen would not be considered outstanding. Great care was taken in the design and assembly of the chasis of my Sentia. But to be fair, I will not make a judgement for or against any particular model since I have not seen the T41 in person.
Reliability - No problem with mine, At all.
Size - Some sites list it at 4.5 lbs, others 4.9 lbs without battery. Not sure what the weight is. Could not find dimensions anywhere. Judging from the screen size, and weight, I would be safe to guess that it is the same. Difference in weight is most likely materials used. Or maybe the PHAT alien head with glaring eyes.
Battery life - both are Centrino and will do over 4 hrs.
Support - I called AW support to ask some questions about my Sentia. the next day, I got a follow up call just to ask if everything was taken care of. Good support in my book. This is coming from a former tech support rep for a large ISP, and QA tech for a networking company. ( I AM a tech )
1 point I will give to the T41 - it has an IR port. which although I have nothing I can use it with, it is a nice addition.
