Question about installing XP on 8600

Thread Starter
I ordered my 8600 with XP Home. However, I have XP Professional that I used to use on my desktop but don't anymore because I switched to Windows 2000. My question is this: the XP Pro I have is the non-SP1 version. Will it install OK on the 8600, and will I be able to correctly upgrade to SP1?

I would advise a fresh install of XP Pro after reformatting. Having a clean install helps in practice, whatever MS tells you. Also you could get rid of unnecessary factory-installed software at the same time.

Thats not my question. I'm asking my question because I want to do that, but my copy of XP is the original non-SP1 edition.

It will install just fine. You can update to SP1 afterwards.

Upgrading Home SP1 -> Pro -> Pro SP1 won't yield the same system as Pro -> SP1. But if you want to save time, it's your choice.

Yeah, just clean install Pro (not that there is significant difference between it and Home for 99% of single users...) and then update to SP1, that should be absolutely fine.
