Dell aint givin out free cash, but they do give out free stuff

As practiced by so many in here, I attempted the "Whine to Dell for no particular reason" routine in an effort to get some money back. The guy was pretty insistant on not giving a credit to my account but was basically saying pick any accessory I want except the APR. I figured I dont want some crappy renamed lexmark printer so I opted for the leather case. Already got a cloth one...damn. Wonder if I can return it after I get it and have my account credited the $100. If not, anybody in the market for a nice leather case? Although not as good as some of you have done, it sure is fun getting free stuff out of em. Too bad I dont need it.

Its the leather deluxe Dell one: http://img.dell.com/images/global/le...0_lcase250.jpg
It fits the widescreen of the 8600 and has the side bolsters incase your laptop isn't quite as wide. Let me know if you're interested.

I also bargained and got that case, among other things, when I ordered a couple months ago. I use it and its very nice, very professional and cool.

Customer care. I just whined in the chat saying I can get my computer for $40 cheaper and the guy was being an @$$ saying the coupon isn't valid for a price adjustment. *rolls eyes* He offered a $20 credit as a "gesture." mwahahahha

I called and complained today about my 9100 replacement that took 5 days to ship when I was told it would be put on priority. I got a free Axiom X3 400mhz for my troubles.

Im gonna trade it back in and pay the extra $120 to get the newest x30

DELL-sakor1:

The leather case is indeed nice, but apparently it has no proper housing for the AC adapter. This is in contrast with the C-series bag, where the adapter could be squeezed in beside the notebook. Further, the C-series bag opened from the top to allow inserting the notebook with the bag standing on the floor, and this is no longer possible with the D-series bag.

So how do you carry the AC adapter?

In one of the various pockets both inside and out. It has plenty of room for the lappy, adapter and a few books I need for Uni...

There's a thing called the gross margin

if yours is high, then dell will throw you a bone. otherwise, you'll get nothing.

simply put: you overpaid.

1.8 ghz WSXGA
512 ram 1 dimm
60 gb 7200rpm HDD
3 yr warranty (working on the 4 yr upgrade)
Dell 1350 wireless card
Deluxe Case

well, thats the meat of my new system and I got it for $1800 not including the extras they threw in. I'm sure they made a killing as they do off everyone, but for me, thats a good price for some of the newest technology in a notebook.

You're speaking out of hearsay. I personally spent 1289 on my refurbed i9100 and with my wit and tact, talked the lady into throwing in a 70 dollar i9100 backpack. As long as you have a problem, express your dissatisfaction about how that problem is being handled (or how there is a problem in the first place), and haggle accessories for your satisfaction, you have a chance. The variables are what your problems are, what you say, and who you talk to. The money spent may or may not affect the "freebies", but in my case, it didn't matter squat. So guys, just be mad, but not insane, and demand your compensation!

Thanks so much for posting this thread. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have gone back on Dell Chat and demanded my damn backpack! I was about to give up after 2 tries of "demanding compensation." You inspired me, bud.

Superfob

No, i'm speaking business 101. Dell isn't going to lose money on you for any transaction *unless* you're a big spender with them and they figure they will make it up down the road.

When a rep punches up your machine, they KNOW how much you paid for it and probably have the gross margin (profit) right in front of them----and they will NOT incur a cost above what you paid. It's running a business and Dell is doing it right.

That $70 backpack was probabaly made at a cost of 9.99. So they threw you 9.99. I would have been impressed if they gave you something more costly: i.e. hardware.

It may only have cost $10 to make, but it is valued at $70 and if it is worth it to him, its worth $70.

I don't dispute the fact that they are in it to make money. But as I see it, I might as well get everything for the cheapest price that they will possibly give out.

Way to go sonny. See, it pays to be a pain in the @$$.

Scott,
I agree completely. I'm not trying to steal one's thunder here. Dell will be making money off of us but we should, as responsible consumers, try to minimise their profits as much as possible.

I guess I just didn't want anyone to have the impression they were getting one over on Dell. And a simple education on Business 101 was needed.

I paid $1400 for this new 8600 below:

P m 1.6
sxga+
128 ATI
40 gb @ 5400 rpms
4x DVD burner CD/CDRW
256 mb ram
1350 wifi
1 year standard warranty

And despite getting a DVD DOA, bad screen, bad replacement screen, and now i'm waiting on a replacment machine, I was unable to squeeze anything out of Dell for the inconvience.

I guess the only comfort i can have is that I minimise their profits to a level where they were unwilling to do any more.

for all that you got nothing? take a lesson and bitch all you can lol. seriously thats ridiculous. After you finally get the replacement call up and say you're thinking about returning it because of all the trouble its been.
