Specs:

Dell Inspiron 600M
P-M 1.4GHz
512Mb DDR
ATI Radeon 9000 64Mb.
XGA 14"
30GB HDD 4200RPM
DVD+RW
XP Home

IBM T40
P-M 1.5GHz
512Mb DDR
ATI Radeon 7500 32Mb.
XGA 14"
40GB HDD 5400RPM
DVD/CD-RW
XP Pro

Both are nice laptops, but in the end I kept the T40 and returned the 600M. Even though the 600M had the upper hand in graphics & DVD burner. The IBM's 5400RPM drive and 1.5GHZ. My decision was based on other factors.

I got both systems for exactly the same price.

-IBM carries a 3-year warranty and tech support worldwide that is the BEST. No long periods of waiting on the phone for tech support...immediate service, great people.

-The construction on the T40 is unbeatable. BOth are about the same size and weight, altough the T40 is a tad lighter and thinner. The lid on the T40 is titanium alloy and the overall construction of the system is far superior and more durable.

-T40 has a keyboard with a much better feel. The thing I dislike about it that I miss a lot and didnt realize I used so much was the windows button.

-T40 has a light that iluminates the keypad from the top of the LCD with the touch of a button. Awesome for when using the lappy in dark places.

Overall I'm happy with my decision to keep the T40. Some people think IBM's are ugly, but I personally like them...they're rugged, and perform awesome. Try one and you'll see why they cost more that any other system of similar specs.
