Slackware linux: Does it have an automated updater?

A couple of year ago I was really into linux. My favorite distro was slackware 8.0 since it was a no bull**** distro and everything i did worked most of the time. And the stability was awesome. The reason why i switched out of it was that it was a pain to update drivers and other things that should be automated. Debian had a great solution to this with the apt-get program, but installing Debian was really difficult. I only got debian to work once, i don't think it was as stable as slackware though.

You *might* be able to install apt or yum on it, but there's no guarantee that you'd be able to find packages. Slack is mostly source-based from what I know.

If you're looking for a really high quality automatically updating distro, I suggest Fedora Core (yum & up2date = yummy) or Gentoo (portage).

Slack has its on package manager i believe its called "pkgtool" but it works similar to the install screen that slack uses to install. You can find out more here http://www.slackware.com/config/packages.php. But if you do like the no frills of Slack then I suggest you take a look at Gentoo. It is a little diffult to install but they have an execellent how to guide on their site to help you get up and running. The other great part is the portage tree. Its all source based so you have to dl and comple everything but its all done automagicly. I switched from slack to gentoo about 3 years ago and never looked back.
