Well I think I've finally found the right tweak combination for the screen resolution... that and my eyes have adjusted. It's growing on me. I'm actually beginning to like the real estate. It just took some time to adjust from using the cadillac that was my desktop. I think I'm going to hold onto her for the rest of the 21day period just to make sure. Not fully committed yet, but we'll see...

That's what happens, and in a few weeks, a 1024x768(XGA) will look tiny, and un usable. It's a great thing, cause the extra space really helps.

Is this site for criticism or for help?

Since you're so adamant about what's wrong with the screen I'll tell you. My screen is very fuzzy and grainy. It flickers from time to time and I can't adjust the size of the display because if I make it bigger the apperance looks distorted.

I will be using my laptop mostly for multiple spreadsheet work and MS Word. The fact that the screen is not crisp and clear bothers me a lot... remember I paid $2500 for my system and I just can't justify paying that kind of money for something that is not to my liking. I also thought that the system would be a lot lighter and with all the acessories its too heavy for me to lug around. I also don't like the feel of it as it seems very poorly put together and not sturdy... I need something that travels well.

I really didn't want to return it... was looking forward to getting it since I already have a Dell that I love...I think I can do better somewhere else and for a lot cheaper.

This site is meant to educate and help not to bash and give negative criticism for feelings that do not correspond to yours. You might want to keep that in mind next time you feel the need to reply to a post.

Good luck to ya Sterlin... keep up the good words.

Maybe your screen is faulty. I got a 600M last week and the screen is perfect (SXGA+ like yours). Everything is default as when I got it, I formatted it to get rid of the junk. The screen looks much crisper than my 21 inch Sony Trinitron flat CRT at 1600*1200*100Hz. Absolutely no sign of light leakage or dead pixels either ... I don't even know what brand the screen is.

My 600m screen was faulty out of the box (connector plug wasn't seated properly) so they just replaced the whole screen with a samsung one (SXGA) and it's been great since! I think Dell use cheaper plastics for their laptops (which is another reason why you pay less to start with) but for those that don't lug their laptop around every single day it should be absolutely fine. If you throw yours around a bit something more rugged like an IBM or Toshiba would be the go, though you'll pay a heck of a lot more and probably won't even get as good features.

To everyone else on the site, besides Sterlin, thanks for your help. I think I probably got a bad batch of the 600M's. Its gone now... UPS picked it up today. I guess I could've sent it back for a replacement but I just got so frustrated with all the little things not working that I gave up on the whole system.

Thanks again for your help... I'll have to post my new issues on the "other" site since I'll be getting my IBM in a few days.

Kelly, which IBM did you decide on?
