Checking out many websites for the following config. on the Compal CL 56

1.8Ghz Dothan
1024 MB (2x512)
4xDVD+-RW
60GB 7200RPM
Wifi b/g
No OS

Gives me the following:
PowerNotebooks -> US$ 2222,00
GamePC -> US$2297,00
RJTech -> U$2033,00
IBUYPOWER -> US$2063,00 (with online 5% discount)
D i s c o u n t L a p t o p s -> US$ 2117,95 (why has this site been banned?)
XtremeLaptops -> US$ 2238,00

I need the fastest delivery possible to NY, from where would you guys order? I don't know any of these shops, but I have to get this laptop within 10 days otherwise it will be too late. I want to order today!!!!

xtremenotebooks -> $2238 incl free shipping and a free backpack if u r a student

xtremenotebooks deals with chemusa based in Fremont, CA which is like 5 hrs drive from where they are itself. and i think chemusa gets its notebooks out pretty quick because they tend to have it in stock already.
and then pay for overnight delivery and it should be there in 10 days

I bet Mwave would have the fastest turnaround time, and i know for sure they have the best prices right now. Thier return policy is a bit lacking though.

yeah, you have to really know you want the CL56 if you order from them. they have a 15% restocking fee

They don't offer the 7200 RPM HD or the DVD Burner, but they have a nice price!

15" SUPER XGA/ATI M11-P 128MB/MODEM/LAN/3xUSB 2.0/1xIEEE 1394 Details (PENTIUM M 745 (1.8G); INTEL WIRELESS LAN 2200BG; 1GB DDR (512MBX2); 60GB (5400RPM) HDD; DVD/CDRW COMBO; NO SOFTWARE) $1,649.00

funny thing is they actually sell the hitachi 7k60 from their site, so i'm wondering if you called them up and asked for one if they would stick it in there for you at some added cost

I dont think they have the fastest turnaround time.... as a place that sells *discounted laptops* ships the next day after you order it.

MWAVE CL56 (Intel Centrino Mobile Technology)
15" SUPER XGA/ATI M11-P 128MB/MODEM/LAN/3xUSB 2.0/1xIEEE 1394 Details (PENTIUM M 745 (1.8G); INTEL WIRELESS LAN 2200BG; 1GB DDR (512MBX2); 60GB (5400RPM) HDD; DVD/CDRW COMBO; NO SOFTWARE) $1,649.00 $1,649.00

only 5400 rpm though.
say you bought a 7k60 (available from mwave) and put it in there yourself: $1817

course you'd have an extra 40 gig notebook HD too now =)

say you stepped down to 1.7ghz (1.8 perf increase not really worth it imo): $1692

post #11 of 35
seems like about 5 days, not too bad i guess..
post #12 of 35
Yeah, definetely not as bad as hypersonic, but not the fastest either.
post #13 of 35
well seriously, it doesn't take a lot of time to assemble a barebones notebook...just slap everything in and run some blind burn-in tests....I guess if you had to do 100 of them maybe...
post #14 of 35
or if you were waiting on parts.
since mwave sells all the parts you would need separately, there's a greater likelihood they'd have them on hand to assemble.

haha yeah that's my boat

The place that sells *discounted laptops* still does better than that. When ordering from them, others and I, were always shipped our notebooks the next day after ordering.
post #18 of 35
that's about right. Every place should be like that imho, doesn't take too long to put a decent laptop together and check for dead pixels.
post #19 of 35
i just emailed Mwave to see if they could manually substitute the 5400 drive for a Hitachi Travelstar 7200. i also asked what type of memory use. ill let you guys know of the response.
post #20 of 35
thanks, i'm too lazy to call them myself right now

can you also ask about their dead pixel policy
