Fastest Place / Most Reliable place to order a Compal CL 56 - Page 2

Another vote for the vendor that *discounts laptops*. I placed my order on a Friday morning expecting them to ship out on Monday and they actually got it out of Sunnyvale CA that SAME NIGHT!! Although UPS Ground is taking their sweet ole time <arghh>. But not bad, ordered last Friday, shipment should be Friday tomorrow.

That would raise a red flag for me though. What kind of quality check or burn in process can you do in a single day?

I know the actual burn in/build process really doesn't need to be 4 days, but 1 day? Dunno.

I am not worried about the quality of the notebooks they supply... take a look at this:

I also emailed mwave asking about adding different hard drives, they said that they only offer what they show on the pull down menus for each laptop.

I dont think it has been discovered yet... but maybe contacting adam from PCtorque, we can get an answer.

So do people generally like mwave? They have great prices, but what are people's experiences with the shipping time and cost, and their dead pixel policy?

discounted laptop's owner said he didn't want to be mentioned on these forums. Plain and simple.

Just ordered from IBUYPOWER with 3 day rush service. My first choice was PowerNotebooks, but they were out of the Compal until Tuesday. I hope all goes well!

For me, powernotebooks was actually cheaper than discount laptops and ibuypower because I live in CA and would have to pay sales tax. So I get the best of both worlds.

YES! Just got an email saying it was shipped from IBUYPOWER, let's hope it arrives im prime conditions!

I ordered on Friday 25/6 with rush 3 business days service (US$69 extra), and it shipped yesterday 1/7. They where late by a day, if we don't consider the ordering day (even though I did order in the morning) ... I guess I can live with that .. I wonder how long it would takes to ship without rush service ...

The tracking information on the website isn't very useful ... only said ... ordering ... then 5 days later .. shipping .. so don't bother checking often for updates.

tho I haven't ordered any laptops,
I emailed several sites with general questions, such as shipping / handling fee's (I live in canada).
so far powernotebooks.com seem to be the best.
they emailed confirming I emailed them, then someone emailed me back shortly.
I haven't received any word from other sites yet, I think if I were to order online powernotebooks.com might be a considerable option.

It doesn't raise a red flag, because Discount*******.com doesn't test the laptops. ChemUSA the distributor, tests each laptop before sending them out to customers on behalf of DL.

Yes!
Received my Compal CL56 ... what can I say .. well I'm very pleased!

My benchmarks tell me my Centrino 1.8/ATI 9700/60Gb 7200 RPM/1GB 333DDR is noticeably faster than my desktop PIV4 2.6HT / Intel 865 Perl / 1GB 400 DDR/geforce 5600 256 MB!

My only disappointment to the Compal, are the speakers, which are really below average .. but that is easily solved by using external speakers....my brother has a toshiba with Hardon Kardon speakers .. so he was bugging me about that ;-)

Delivery
IBuyPower took 1 more day than promissed (3 rush day service) to deliver and Fedex also took 3 days to deliver a 2nd day delivery!

Screen
As good as any SVGA+ screen I've seen from Toshiba, Dell .. etc ... that meaning not so good viewing angles. But nice enough for me! No dead pixels!

Speed
Awesome, blew away my PIV desktop on every test!

Wireless
Easy to setup, my first time actually picked up someone else's unprotected network !

Gaming
Unreal 2004 at highest settings run very smoothly .. this notebook is fast!

Keyboard
Very big keyboard letters and numbers .. they look like stickers, I wonder how long they will last. Have to push hard on the keys ..

Looks
Not a great looker ... on the good side, doesn't call as much attention as a Ferrari 3200 .. which was my second option.

Sound
Crappy speakers..hook it up to an external sound system for quality

Hard Drive
Very fast and quiet

Heat
Doesn't heat up much. Used it on my lap for a long time...gets slightly warm

Noise
Hardly can hear the fan on or the hard drive

Overall
A best buy ... excellent price / performance ratio

xtremenotebooks deals with chemusa based in Fremont, CA which is like 5 hrs drive from where they are itself. and i think chemusa gets its notebooks out pretty quick because they tend to have it in stock already.
and then pay for overnight delivery and it should be there in 10 days
yeah, I order and received my laptop within a 7 days too. I think the secret is to ask them for status every day
