microphone

I'm having trouble getting my 8887 (WinXP Home) to recognize my over-the-ear headset microphone.. It works well with the built-in microphone, but I don't like leaning into the screen to dictate stuff, so I bought a Labtec (forgot the model number) that interfaces with the small plug on the left side of the computer. Once I plug it in, I can't seem to get the computer to hear me. Tried the "Speech Recognition" popup windows to tweak the settings; I think I've tried all permutations of sound card, volume level for line in and mic, mic boost, etc etc. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

I dont know whats wrong but since you did all that stuff, try check your little controller on the cord of your headset. I dont know what model Labtec you have but I have the Axis-002 and theres a little controller thing that you can use for volume and the control for your mic. Be sure that the switch is set to on. Again I dont know what headset but if you have the same one, check it out.....Goodluck

Thanks, I did almost overlook that, but that's not it either.. Oh well. I may try with a different brand; maybe a USB interface is more reliable.. Thanks.
