Over heating acer laptop

Thread Starter
hi guys,

i just purchased my first laptop: Acer Aspire AS2012WLMi ($1450 shipped)

everything is great, except i noticed the temperature is getting quite high,(no way u can put it on your lap, so much for a laptop ) the heat accumulates mostly under the top half of the keypad.

this is normal? does anyone else have a AS2012WLMi that experience the same problem?

is there any way at all to cool it down a bit?

thanx in advance for any advise

P.S. does anyone know if AS2025WLMi runs hot or not? i might exchange for it.

I have the 2012WLMi as well but I dont notice any extra heat near the keypad. Overall, mine stays pretty cool. The bottom does get a little warm after a while but that is normal. I've owned several different laptops both Pentium 4 and Pentium M models and they all got warm on the bottom after a little use.

Try putting the powersetting mode to Portable/Laptop.

This will throttle the computer when plugged in and when on battery (its the setting i use, and there really isn't any performance degradation). This keeps the bottom a lot cooler.

Also, if you keep a bucket of water handy, as most normal people do, You could try submerging the laptop into the bucket for 15-20 seconds while running. This will not only cool the laptop in the short term, but it will remain PERMANENTLY cool after only 1 or 2 applications.

Hope this helps!

If you have not done so by now get the heatsink and fan replaced before you fry your CPU. Sounds like a fault cooling system if you getting heat build up this great. (Seen this on 3 notebooks of late and they happen to be Acer Aspire Sony Vaio and a Compal 5 series)
