Windows XP & Internet Connections

Well, I was given this link earlier and was reading through it. Boy, talk about your paranoia. However, as with all paranoids-and-MS, it's probably all true.

Thought it would be a good topic for a Technical discussion here. I found it odd that the author chose to discuss Win98 and WinXP - perhaps it was because most users will go from 98 to XP (home/pro). It would have been nice to see how Windows 2000 compares.

Vulnerabilities galore. It is a long article.

still reading...

I just started reading the article and will probably be digesting it slowly as something about it is making it hard for me to read. Maybe it's this touch of a headache and nothing to do with the article. :P I will read it for sure and I just know it's going to spawn a couple comments.

As to why he choose 98 vs w2k is probably because of the home market as you stated the 98 -> XP upgrades with the home version. Our office is entirely w2k (pro and server) with only very few exceptions where we have to run other versions to be able to do compatability testing. My feeling is under the hood the differences between w2k and xp are minor compared to the leap between 98 and xp. I won't even mention that other disaster <shudder> that came after 98. Moving the home (98) market to the NT kernel is a huge change. This new OS they are working on with the SQL like indexing engine will be an even bigger remove from DOS land. Dos was not a friendly networking environment (but always fun to get setup) whereas NT has always been pointed at the business networks. Now ease of connection and the problems associated with that are being brought to the home user.

ok, enough rambling, time to find the tech candy and get rid of this headache.
