Are any users desktop/sff free?

How many of you have abandoned desktops and sff's for notebooks, laptops and or tablets? I have asked myself if I got a tablet and a good desktop replacement, would I really need a sff or another desktop. I mean by PIII works well and should not be dying anytime soon. I was a bit worried about the upgrading aspect by going portables only.

I am currently in the market for a laptop. My main computer is a Shuttle SB51G that I definitely won't be giving up. The notebook I end up getting will probably be my main system, but the SB51G is so small that it may end up being a living room media center or server or something.

the laptop i buy in the next few months is gonna replace my desktop for at least a year, i'll just turn the tower into a really nice media box

I couldnt ever give up my desktop. There is just too much of a performance gap at this point.

Not to mention, i would hate to see the notebook that could match my 21" CRT. It would be a back breaker =)

An external connection can cover the CRT part. As far a performance, I'm not sure of the differences between A64 Mobile vs A64 Desktop version and Intel's (latest and greatest desktop chipc) vs Intel Pentium 4-M or M

I gave up the desktop about 3 years ago, but decided it was a mistake 2 years ago and came back. I require both.

only real discernable performance gap for me would be if i bought a radeon 9800XT for my desktop. the other components make for pretty marginal observable differences; i'd be well satisfied with a mradeon 9700 + dothan + 7200 rpm.

i'd probably keep my 19'' CRT around and do an extended desktop setup. of course, there's nothing so beautiful as my viewsonic flatscreen. =0

I will be using a kvm switch so that I can use both. my notebooks will be my primary system for a while but my compuer has 2 120 gig hard drive so I will still need that.

About a year latter I will get use my xp2000 for something else and build a a64 desktop to my the a64 notebook i will get.

Would you all like to donate to help me get a notebook fund. lol

Well, my desktop isnt anywhere near top of the line anymore and i can pull 6k+ in 3dmark03.

Even the DTR laptops are only getting 4kish.

I think the top of the line desktops are running over 10k in 3dmark03 now, so thats a pretty huge performance difference.

Not to say a good notebook isnt nice, but i couldnt ever give up my desktop.

Both is the way to go =)
