That was only true when it came to my printer.
I have the NetGear 614 and a NetGear VPN appliance behind it. I run HTTP/FTP/SSH/VPN/Terminal Server/Servers and a few other odd port services. I have had no problems with it whatsoever and it hasnt been turned off in 9 months.
Range on it never drops below "very good" anywhere in my house (1 story) and none of my phones or other devices cause any noticable interference.
I would stay away from Belkin. I had so many issues with them that I finally just gave up.
Linksys is a good brand as well, and to be honest, I just didnt like it being blue
