A Beginner Question on Batteries

I've browsed this site a lot lately (lot of good info) as a guest, but finally took the plunge and registered. Anyway, I'm looking to purchase my very first laptop, and I've all but decided on Hypersonic's CX5, especially considering some of the very nice reviews of it I've seen here. My question basically lies in whether it's a good idea to purchase a spare battery or not? Do you find the spare to be necessary, or does the long battery life provided by the CX5 usually allow you to recharge in time (or does everyone just use the adapter)? I'm only asking because the spare battery runs ~$120, which would be nice to shave off of my total order if it's easy to live without. Is there any other reason to own 2 batteries? I thought I've seen some systems capable of accepting 2 batteries at once to really crank up battery power, but I don't think I've ever seen it mentioned as an option with this particular computer.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Having two battereies within the notebook at the same time is currently not an option, but it is said to be coming in the future. It really depends on what you are going ot be doing with the laptop, whether you will need two or one battery. If you have 10 hour workdays... and wont have access to an outlet, then buy the 2, but if you are only going to be doing easy tasks, and have access to an outlet, i suggest you just get 1.

Thanks for the super prompt response. Makes good sense, I was leaning towards the 1 battery option, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out anything by not having two. Thanks for helping me make my decision.

Actualy enderet, there are some lappys out there which can swallow 2 battery packs. I can not think of any spcific models at the time but i know that in general, some notebooks with swappable media bay drives do this. If you don't need a cd/dvd player, you can stick a 2nd battery in the media bay and thus have 2 batteries at the same time. This technology has been around a while because i am preaty sure that my friends P3 ThinkPad (which has a swapable media bay) can do it.

Of course i know that! I personaly have owned some notebooks like that and know of several like that. I was talking about the CL56
