Nearing the time to decide...

Hey guys,

First post, go me!

Anyway, it is nearing the time for me to decide which laptop to get. I’ve looked at a ton of different ones and I think that the AW Sentia is the one. I thought I would go with another Sony since that is what I currently have, but when the AW is cheaper and has more features I think I should go with the AW. I am a hardcore gamer, but that is not the point of this laptop. I have my desktop for that. =)

I do have a few questions though.

How is it to have the ports and plugs on the side of the laptop? I have some ports on the side of the current one, but most things are on the back. Is that hard to get used to?

Does the laptop have a noisy onboard fan? My current laptop (when not in heavy use) is basically silent, making sleeping with it on very nice. It cycles on and off sometimes, but I’m using CpuIdlePro to control that, which is does nicely.

Speaking of which, what can the uptimes be like on the laptop? My current one is left on all the time. My longest uptime was 19 weeks, 5 days, and I had no problems with the machine what-so-ever.

I was using my cousin’s laptop once on my legs in the car and after about 15 minutes I wanted to cry my legs had been toasted so badly. How does the Sentia do on the legs? Most of the time, it won’t be on my legs, but I am just wondering.

I’ve heard split things on AW’s support. I am a pretty do it myself tech repair guy (as long as it doesn’t void anything) but laptops are a different world. Would AW’s tech support/warranty be better than ie. Sony/HP?

I would get the 1.7, loaded. I think... I’ve been reading about the new Sentias coming out, I will have to check those out.

Anyway, thanks in advanced if you open your mind. I hope to become apart of the family soon.

You might want to wait and see if the new sentia is released this next week, as has been said.

If you are a gamer, i would look around a bit more first. The current Sentia is pretty weak in the gpu department. I know you said you had the desktop for gaming, but i dont think you would be happy not being able to game at all on a Sentia.

I wouldn't say that you can't game at all on the Sentia. There have been plenty of posts concerning this topic on this board and most of them point towards the belief that the Sentia can game but is not for the "hardcore" gamer.

LOL,
well, Roarak made me start thinking.. I might want something more because if I am in a place with power (ie. plane, or car, or something like that) and I want to game, I might not be able to as much as I could. Like m:360 from voodoo atleast has a 128mb card in there, (although way more expensive), so.. I will see what AW has up their sleeves.. if it isn't any better.. arg, I don't know.. so hard.

Thanks everyone! =)

the voodoo m:360 is orignally designed adn manufactured by compal

the us distrubuted model is compal cl56

falcon northwest use the exact same laptop for its 'fragbook TL'

hypersonic also uses it and calls it CX-5

there are alot of other places that have it at a much more economical price

just do some lookin... resellers change the name, so its deceiving, but if you look at the specs/pics you'll know who the original maker is

up above is the falcon northwest fragbook TL (compal cl56)

and here is the voodoo m:360 (compal cl56)

chembook 2056 (compal cl56)

hypersonic cx-5 (compal cl56)

and there are other resellers that offer it unpainted (at a real economical price)

alrighty,

so i am wondering how hard/easy it would be to remove all the parts like those resellers do, and take it to a body shop and have them paint it

- the compal cl56 looks nice
