Thanks to Tmapp for finding this information

External Battery for 8887-The Beast On The Go

Quote:
External Laptop Battery - provides up to seven hours of additional run-time. Includes AC adapter for charging. Volts: 19 Amps: 6.4 Li-Ion
It looks very tempting no?

Looks nice, I didn't notice anything aimed at the more recent models though ie: 56xx or 888x
post #3 of 35
It's not compatible with the current 4 prong Sager systems.
i am salivating. looks almost too good to be true....

adam: am i to assume that my 8887 is on the non-compatibility list?
Maybe with enough pressure the manufacturer will make an 888E-compatible model?

Who says they need pressure? If we let them know how big of a market that they'd have here on the forums, maybe they would wake up to the possibility! We could do a web petition for it!

have newbie, will travel

i know i'm just newbie to the cult of sager, but i'm surprised at the lack of third party support of peripherals to the beautiful behemoths.

what better niche market than sager could a third party hardware developer have? we don't care about portability and weight...only lugability...we don't require transluscent candy colored plastics to wet our palettes...we don't need bargain basement prices....

all our market are belong to them that cater to us.

Nice. Excellent play on words!

Still, I think Sager is still "too small" for many third-party manufacturers. This may very well change in the coming years, but for now, we're slippin' in under their radar, unfortunately.

External Power

We need a backpack with 2 car batteries, or Battery powered shoes Compatible with our beloved Sagers!
I've talked to the manufacturer of it (they make a 7 hr and 10 hr version of the universal battery). So, we're giving it a try at least. The 7 hour one is 95W which we can rule that out, but the 10 hr one is 140W which has potential. 10 hours wouldn't apply to the Sager though, you could probably cut that down to 7 hrs with the power they pull.

Right on man

a workout suit plus mobile gaming on the go, you get your gaming and working out in one

12lb pound note book pluse unknown weighted large ass battery = a damn un portable laptop. Wow that would be a load, but those who would pay that much for a battery probably need it, but still I'd have to have one of those wheeled bags to transport it and I hate those wheeled bads. It makes me shudder thinking of having the 8887, that battery, and my textbooks in one bag.

That external battery was like a pound man

for the ammount of extra hour's it would give its worth taking with you. Laptop sits on top anyway

to bad its not compatable with sagers
in response to "sager's market is too small"(paraphrased)...i say what of the entire market share of the mothership, Clevo? surely sager isn't their only reseller/repackerager-er(?), eh?

i wonder how clevo's worldwide marketshare ranks in the grand scheme of things?

It looked heavier than that and they didn't state the weight on the site, but I'll take your word for it. In that case its pretty sweet, though I couldn't justify the expense.

Yea shadow

but when you factor in, the internal batterys cost 135-150

$135=2:00 hours (max just browsing the net or reading documents
$300=7:00 hours doing the same as above

the price does justify being worth it, IF it F(#@ing was compatable with sagers

Sheesh!

Those damned sagers dont seem to be compatible with anything...

I still love my lappy though

Myrkat had some sort of set up with a car battery or something. I think the best thing Sager can do for us is fabricate an overnight charger for spare batteries so that we dont have to put them in the laptop just for getting them charged...This charger should accomodate an extra primary and an extra secondary battery simultaneously.

4 batteries = 6 hours of run time all for 4x$130 = $520.00 which is a fairly good deal.

Either that or sager reduce the price of its batteries

No I wasn't saying they were not worth the cost I was saying I personally couldn't justify buying one. The longest I need my laptop to ever last is hour and a half. Thats during class so all I'm doing is surfing the net and word processing. The $1900 that I plan to spend is stretching my budget as it is. I've also go to look towards upgrading my desktop in the Fall. I want a powerfull laptop, but my desktop is the center of my computing universe.

I hear ya

same here though going out to the park our just on a beautiful day using it for more than 2 hours would be fantastic

I am *definitely* getting that external battery should it materialize! I don't know about you guys but the 8887 doesn't seem heavy at all to me now. Of course, carrying it in the huge High Sierra bag I have with all the adapters and goodies, my shoulder aches on long walks, but if I'm just toting the laptop in a small carry bag, it's effortless. I don't think adding a huge battery to my bag will matter much.

I'm pretty sure that among all the world's laptop owners, Sager 8887 owners have the best stamina
