Nah!!

I'm pretty sure that among all the world's laptop owners, Sager 8887 owners have the best stamina
you're wrong!!

Its the Dell peeps who have the most stamina...
And they get all of the stamina build up after they make their order - running around wondering when in hell the laptop will make it to their homes, calling up numbers and waiting on hold for LOOONG times till their parents tell em to go easy on their girlfriend waiting downstairs...and then they struggle to make other people like the Dell Dude...then they struggle to justify their enormous expenditure while they could have gotten a better deal with Sager

No offense to the guys from Dell reading this post - you wanna do your "Legal Action" crap on me you'd better build up some more stamina before you try...

BTW, clevo's market share isn't all that great. I read somewhere that clevo only sells 200,000 units a year, which is pretty darn small compared to say compaq or dell. That's probably why no one makes peripherals for Sagers.
Clevo shipped almost 400,000 units last year and they hope to have 500,000 shipped this year.

That was exactly the figure I was searching for... Still, it's rather a small market segment. Don't hope for too many perpherials when catering to only 400,000 users.

Yea only 400 thousand

They still need to get some working external battery packs out

NO EXCUSES

I wouldn't mind doubling the wieght of my Sager for that kind of battery power. Keeping two sets of batteries charged (not to mention conditioning them periodically) is a bit of a headache. I'd hope however that if this thing does show up, it'll work with the 5670 as well.

BTW, the car battery thing isn't that impossible. Target used to sell a DC to AC converter that ran off a huge battery. It functioned sort of like a UPS (charging when plugged in, and then running from battery when unplugged), but it's been off the market for a long time (probably limitted interest combined with considerable risk of missuse). A hobby shop might still have something like that though. I'd do it myself if I could figure out where to put the giant battery during class.

doubling the weight?
I think thats where i would draw the line
24 pounds is a bit much for me.
I can do math.

I roll my computer around campus in my backpack with all my books, so I don't care if it's 24 pounds. As long as the desk doesn't tip over, I'll be happy.

As a side note, 24 pounds doesn't feel like much after you spend half a year working in an office supplies warehouse (boxes of paper and paper products as heavy as 60 or 70 pounds each).

That 10 hour, 140W powerpad that Adam mentioned, I wonder how much work it would take the manufacturer to get out an 888x compatible version? I'm not knowledgable about electronics stuff but I would imagine they could just make some sort of 4-prong adapter and sell it with their current pad?

I'm with Keal, If someone could mod it with a new cord, I'd pay extra.

Power Pads

Does anyone know if the Power Pads listed on the PcTorque website accessories page work with either the 5670's or 8887's? I see them listed there-and $200-$400 seems worth it to me (I travel and I DON'T care how heavy the laptop is, if I can play games/watch DVD's on the plane)

I would love the big screen, (8887) but at least need 3 hours of play/watching time on the planes (5670). (not to mention working some times......unfortunately)

Obviously I am undecided.....Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Here's the answer to your question Dirk, one of the early posts in this thread.

We all hope the people that make the powerpads will adapt them
