Am I the only one to think, damn they didn't upgrade the only weak spot the
6809 had, they left the 9600/64 meg video card.
What did the really upgrade? Just the processor right? Maybe the memory cad drives (I'm not really sure...)? It really is a shame, they should have increased the video memory...

The video card is hardly a weak spot. The only real weak spot in the system is the 4200 RPM HD.

What's got me is the CPU. They have the 3400+ listed as running at 2GHz with 1MB L2 cache. So whats different between it and the 3200+??

I've been waiting for the upgraded M6809s to hit the market (with the 3400+). I know exactly what model I'm getting now. Now, all I have to do is wait.

EDIT: The 3400+ is marked wrong. It runs at 2.2 GHz, not 2.0:

3000+ = 1.8 GHz
3200+ = 2.0 GHz
3400+ = 2.2 GHz

Yeah, in reply to the slow hard-drive I agree it needed improving, but at least thats user upgradable, the GPU only they could improve.

ETA at BestBuy

Anyone have a feeling or heard anything about when these new machines will show up at BB?

Ahh OK. I was wondering if it was jsut a misprint. I run my 3200+ at 2.2GHz on AC all the time anyway, even after dropping voltage from 1.4 to 1.3. That is probably faster than the stock 3400 since it will be 200*12, and mine is 220*10. I was hoping I wouldn't be regretting not waiting for the newer machines. My fear was they would include a 5400RPM drive and/or the the 9700 radeon.

when was the 6809 released? just trying to figure out an update cycle
post #9 of 17
I am not sure but I got my 6809 from BB on April 17. If I remember they came out around the first of April.

17 inch model

I heard a rumor that emachines was coming out with an 17inch model of the 6809
post #11 of 17
if they came out with a 17in model, u'd be crazy to get it. thats too large in size and weight. the 15.4in screen on it now is surprisingly large. 17 would expand the laptop to some freak desktop replacement. 1280x800 is sweet.

just wish they would power doom 3... but if they got it running in an xbox, perhaps it will
post #13 of 17
i just went to the site today and it looks like they removed the m6811
post #14 of 17
i had no problems accessing it. sadly. was hoping they would bump the graphics card up, which would have sealed the deal for me

Still there for me, and hopefully still listing incorrect CPU specs.

I would have really liked if they replaced the 64mb 9600 card for a 9700 128 mb than add like 200 - 300 more to the price. Or just wait for the PCie express cards and put them in the emachines.

Ehh, I think if they just put 128 megs in the 9600 it would be fine, I mean, that 9600 is one heck of an overclocker...
