Best 80gb 5400rpm HD?

Didn't want to start new thread for this...

Out of these three 80GB 5400RPM HD's which would you suggest?
- Toshiba 80G ATA-100 5400rpm 16M #HDD2191
- Hitachi 80G ATA-100 5400rpm 8M #08K0639
- Fujitsu 80G 5400rpm 8M cache #MHT2080AH

the 16M buffer sure looks good

Does the 16MB cache make a big difference?
This place sells a 60GB 5400RPM 16MB-cache for $100CAN less than a 60GB 7200RPM 8M-cache.
So I'm assuming higher RPMs make a bigger difference in performance.?

Where are you getting these prices from? I am very interested.

The 16 megs of cache doesn't so anything. The toshiba 60 gig gax barely beats out the hitachi 80gig 4200 rpm

The Hitachi 7200 is much faster.

Yup i was comtemplating before i got my hitachi gnx(5400 rpm) drive. That sealed the deal for me. And now that the 7200 rpms are out, there is no question about what to use.

It's a Canadian store. emm..
http://www.canadasys.com/
They have the 7200rpm listed for $319CAN. Doesn't show the brand but I can only guess that its the hitachi 7k60 since that's the only one out in stores rite now..

Seems like I'll be able to put together my own M6BNe from local shops around Toronto... all but the wireless card which is about 1/2 price elsewhere

Btw... priced a M6BNe : 1.8 Dothan : 1GB Kingston RAM : Hitachi 80/5400 : DVD/CDRW : 2nd Battery for modular bay : intel pro 2200bg for $2639Cdn ~= $1960us (strong Cdn dollar actually making the us price higher and higher)
All within 1 day order

Cheapest I can find in states with same config (but probably crappier parts) is $2011 w/o shipping (could probably do better if get parts separately, but there's no way I'm considering buying all parts from states, and have the possibility of having to deal with defects, etc.)

Too bad my purchase date is not for another month and a half...
And still hoping a M6BNe w/ 9700 128mb or a WSXGA + 9700 128mb will show up by then

I'll have to pay taxes anyways if I order from states, even if I brought one back from Seattle, I would claim it over the border, too much of a risk for not doing so

Edit: My planned budget was around $3k before taxes, and my original planned machine was the Acer 2025 which was just that, but only with 512mb ram and 4600rpm hd, so this machine saves me a bit

Also, I can claim GST for business use (not for myself if u know what i mean)
AND 30% depreciation tax credit per year too... hehe

2639+tax huh....15% in ontario if memory serves me right.....man we get raped big time lol.. But yeah of course the US option does warrant taxes as well...unless you want a seized laptop.

Ya... stupid taxes... good thing being a student gives me mass amounts of tax credits so no income tax for all the internships I've done so far

I can drive over the border through Alberta to save PST, but doing that to save $200 is a waste of time

Also, if I buy here... it's much much simpler to deal with when I have problems

The only problem being since M6BNe on special order... they are handed over as sealed box... so no dead pixel check

meh same here for my CL56, doesn't matter, you can swap it and claim something else was wrong with it

oh u mean "accidentally" zap out a few other pixels to get it over 5? (i wonder if it's really possible)
but really, what else could be wrong with a whitebone though? how would i tell them i need a swap because the mobo is whack? i guess a crack in the case would do, but that's... uhh... shady

meh just say the LCD isn't up to par, and they should exchange it for you....I know the ppl who work at the warehouse so it shouldn't be a problem for me. It doesn't cost them anything to exchange, so I don't think there would be a problem there.
