Got a Memory stick?

This is kinda Mickey Mouse but, If you have a memory stick, put this in a file named AUTORUN.INF on the memory stick:

[autorun]
icon=Sony Memory Stick 128MB.ico

Also put the ico file on the stick

The drive now looks like a memory stick!

I got my icon from some sony clie theme or something, if you can't find one let me know and I'll dig it up.

If anyone knows how to accomplish this so that the icon shows up even when the stick is out, let me know how to do this.

Also, if you think this is stupid No need to get all smart aleky about it

to change it when it's not in try microlangelo, iconforge actvicons or some other prgram that will let you change windows (shell) icons. They're stored in the system dlls and referened in the registry.

Why not just create a SHORTCUT to the drive and assign an icon?

This is to show the Icon in windows Explorer, like the CD drive (it looks like a CD).

I don't care for the label 'Winbond MS Drive' and changed it to 'Memory Stick Drive' by going into the Registry to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHand lers\DeviceGroups\MemoryStick and changing the 'Label' data. If you guys try it, make sure you reboot to see the results

Keal, Nice tip.

I don't care for it either. When I first got the Mapptop, I didn't even know what it was, this is why a changed the icon.

When the stick is in the label takes on the label of the stick, but when the stick is removed, it reverts to the Winbond MS drive label again. I'm gonna change my registry now. Thanks brudda.

Just a note: Do you surf, err is that a stoopid question. I surf on the east coast, but you would probably laugh at the waves here.

While changing the registry per Keal's tip, I noticed that there is also settings for Memory Stick-MG. Does this mean that the device can handle Magic-Gate sticks? How about he new "Pro sticks" I only have one of of the original sticks. I almost bought a pro the other day, but didn't know if it was compatible.

Anyone got a Magic gate or Pro memory stick, please post results (ie. it works)

Thanks,
tmapp

tmapp,

I asked around at work today and no one has a Magic Gate stick. I would love to know if that works also!

No I don't surf, but I do boogie board once in awhile. I don't have the skills to stand up on a board!
