Will sager be using the same chasis with the same ports? Thanks for any help
i think that the 1 meg of l2 cache on the amd 64 makes up for the lack of dual channel memory (or so ive heard). i think just about every laptop has the lock port, but as long as you lock your dorm room, it shouldnt be a prob.

If you find anymore pictures of the new model post it. That DVI sounds great for animation though. Dual screen I wonder if the keyboard is mapped the same way as the 8790, with the left ctrl key in its proper spot not replaced by the fn key.

Lock port of 4750

I asked the guys at pctorque and they said that there is a lock port on the np4750 used for a kensington lock. Had to ask to make sure, thanks for the help all.

Could you ask adam@pctorque about this computer. He may have more info. I am not quite sure how to contact him.

in response to ActuaryTm's post above, does that mean that the 4750 will have an optional dual-layer dvd burner? cause the m-tech equivalent appears to (sometimes hard to tell if they just mean dual format), and i think the hypersonic version does as well, but the one described in adam's post doesn't seem to.

hi, by the way. been lurking for a while, and a lot of what i've read here has been helpful in deciding on a laptop.

what's mtech's website? is it an USA based reseller?

i just followed the link that Crispy gave, second post from the top on this page. but don't know anything more about the company.

doesnt look like it has dual layer burner, but it does have what looks like the same burner as the 8790.

mayaman2, so i guess m-tech is an oed, same as sager. and yes, based in the usa. in addition to the link i mentioned before, this one takes you to the press release for the d470k, same as (or almost, apparently) the sager 4750. don't know if m-tech's a good company, though.

OGREtheBUFFOON, i think you're right, but it's unfortunate, cause i really want a dual-layer burner, and the other companies working with the clevo d470k model all have dual-layer as an option. maybe i should just go with a 4750 with the cheap cd-rom and get an external dvd burner...

wait, my fault, hypersonic doesn't have a dual-layer option either. m-tech seems too, though.

This model isn't currently available to order however. I have tried.

i wonder if the 4750 will be able to use the 12 cell battery like the 8790. Now that would be great.
yes that would be nice, especially since it could last 3+ hours with the amd. Wow, a desktop replacement with decent battery life, am i in the same universe?
nope. probably would weight more though.

Unfortunately, a 12-cell battery won't be an option for the 4750. The 4750 and 8790 are based on 2 different chassis. The 4750 is slightly smaller and therefore doesn't have the room for a 12-cell like the 8790. However...

AMD plans to increase the speeds of their low-power (35w) mobiles all the way up to 3400+ by Q2 next year. The way I figure it, cutting power consumption by more than 50% should give a huge boost to power consumption.

i wonder if the dtr one could be switched out for the low power one.

ditto!

Why don't more companies use Arctic Silver? I mean, it's a BIG thing.. lots of people replace thermal tape for this stuff because it simply is a lot BETTER.. I'm sure it costs a bit more than thermal tape, but to make customers happy, I'm sure it would be beneficial to give it to them? Anyone?
that's what i want to know. i wish it was standard practice. it would be great for dtr laptops. less heat which could be good if you wanted to overclock.
well isn't not having AS5 preapplied not a big problem so long as they don't do a burn-in, wbhich would have the effect of melting the tape and making it completely pointless to apply the AS5? if i'm right, does anybody know of the companies that actuallly do a burn-in (or have AS5 preinstalled) besides hypersonic?
