just lost 60gb of stuff
(i tried to combine my 20gb, and 60gb partition of my external drive)

...the worst part is i dont even remember everything that was on the partition, so its impossible to get everything back.

Yea, I have a 160gb drive that used to be in my desktop. Was partitioned 25/125. COMPLETELY FULL.

Lost everything when partition magic screwed up trying to merge them.

*cough*backup*cough*

backup onto what? that 160gb drive WAS my backup, i was simply remove a windows partition from it. Something Ive done at least a dozen times before, just on much smaller drives.

You shoudn't be doing dangerous operations on your backup drive then.
lol, so I was better off to just leave 25gb wasted then instead of wiping that partition?
Apparently, yes, seeing as how you lost everything
post #8 of 17
Woulda left it 25/125 until I had a DVD burner to back it all up with. In fact, That's what I'm actually doing that right now.
Eh... I was using this computer to make the change. "This computer" means my only remaining computer, my laptop...which has a DVD+RW....that i havnt used yet.....

lol....that drive had my backup files too.... i always only heard good things about partition magic, so i didnt even consider this might happen.... *bangs head on wall*
post #11 of 17
Wait, you had your files and backup files on one drive? That kind of defeats the purpose of backups wouldn't you think?

it was my external HD that i had partitioned into a backup section, and media section... and i wanted to merge them into one partition...

What was the error that you got?
PM usually give you an error code when something goes wrong.

Also PM has an UNdelete function that might get your stuff back.

i forget exactly... but the error had something to do with an incorrect header

anyway, its probably too late for any recovery... i already repartitioned the HD.

Thanks tho

well my back up Hdd got messed up i droped it. so i thought maybe formatting it was goin gto fix it. so i took at much info and backed it up on my laptop HDD. and using PM i did a delete secure and it didnt even pic up my USB drive and started to delete my Laptop drive so guess what i lost everything just like you so i know how u feel

Yeh for reason partition magic loves to randomly dismount drives when I use(ed) it.
