8890 LAN driver

I recently reformatted and reinstalled XP, but when updating all the drivers, I couldn't figure out how to install the LAN drivers. In the manual, it says run SETUP.EXE, but there isn't a setup.exe in the LAN folder (Win2000 or XP). So I went to Sager and downloaded the LAN drivers, but the files were exactly the same as on the drivers CD. Anyone know how to install the LAN drivers?

pyro: I just duplicated your download of the lan drivers. Setup.exe is there and will start the install. It's not in the winxp or win2000 folder its outside those folders and is within the directory/folder entitled Lan, along with data1, data2 files, etc.

Pyro: ignore my prior comment, I downloaded the lan drivers for the 8790 which my comment pertains to. I then downloaded the 8890 drivers and see what you mean. Their is no setup.exe file. I think that you may have to install the Lan drivers thru device manager by going thru update driver.

Thanks, I'll see what I can do when I get home.

Anyone else got suggestions?

No executable is included. Unfortunately, the user manual is incorrect in this regard (Steve makes note of this in his thorough review, found here).

The correct installation method involves either making use of the method Steve describes in the above referenced post, or merely opening the device manager, selecting the appropriate device (cannot recall offhand what it appears as prior to installation, but should be readily identifiable), and directing the driver location to the appropriate .inf file - in this case, "NETRTLXP.INF".

Good luck.

Hello Pyrobob83,

the latest drivers for Realtek 8169 (8890 LAN component) are on the Realtek website :

Version 6.12
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&Software=True

I allways use the latest from this site.

A useful software is available too : The Windows diagnostic Utility version 1.11 (on the same page).

Bye
