New 8887-V blue screening

Just got my 8887-V. I pretty much got this to play Everquest on. Well I can play and it looks great. BUT after about 30 mins of play the computer will drop out and flash the blue screen then reboot.

This computer is JUST like it was shipped , Ive not added any new drivers or installed any software( other than everquest).

Anyone know if this problem could have anything to do with the laptop over heating?

If anyone has any wisdom to add please do so.

Ok troubleshooting...

Does this happen under normal usage (i.e) browsing, word processing etc.??

Can you run a dxdiag and e-mail the report to me?

Did you install everything in the order stipulated in the manual?

What OS are you running? If its not XP-Pro then you'd better get XP-Pro or some other new OS that the peeps here recommend...

If you have your laptop in a ventilated space then there is no reason why it should heat up...

Just free the space around the laptop...

Its not happened under normal usage. But it is now doing this when I run Unreal II.

Ill post it here http://www.knology.net/~mckay/text/DxDiag.txt

Unless I just missed something there was no iinstall instructions in the manual. I skimed it ...
And when I got the computer the OS was installed all I did was set up the network.

It is XP-Pro for the OS.

And there is plenty of room on my deck for the laptop. Good 18 inchs of space around it for it to vent.

Got to say Im a little disapointed...

Do you get a message saying that a drawing operation could not be completed when you reboot ? Got that on UT2003...

Did you also get the Unreal 2002 patch installed ? I found it necessary because it would freeze on my 2 computers (the desktop is a Dell).

Hey Pusherman, when did you order your 8887, it looks like the same one I ordered. I have not yet received mine, I just trying to get an idea of when it will be here.

gsferrari, what are you looking for in the dxdiag?

Thanks,

Pusherman,

Have you tried updating your video drivers to the latest ATI Catalyst 3.2? If not, have a go at it, maybe it will do the trick. I hope you get your games running smoothly soon, good luck!

You're saying that it blue screened, right? When I tried to run 3DMark03 without the right drivers, when I got to the Troll's Lair section, the program crashed, leaving the messed up resolution in place. When I tried to fix it, I then got the blue screen. Check the video drivers.

It seems you have HT enabled plus DX 9.0... Not good. These two things, as of now, don't work well together. I had the same problem, fixed it by disabling HT.

Mmmm looking like that was the ticket!

Ill test for 6 or 8 hours tonight Normal EQ night for me.

If in fact its the DX9.0 +HT that were makeing my gameing suck some one in admin shoes should make a sticky thread spelling that out.

Thanks for the ideas, nice to have smart folks willing to help out.

I fixed it by removing Dx9

let me clarify something ...

DirectX 9.0a and HT work well on other machines.

My desktop is a Dell with the above and it works just fine ! So, maybe we should say that DX9.0A and HT does not work well on our laptops

Blah, how whould you go about uninstalling DX9 -or- turning off HT?

Seems if you turn off HT in the BIOS widows will not load...

Ive lost my happy thoughts with this....

In the process of using the setup/REPAIR in XP to re-install the single processer kernal(sp?).

I thought Id given up the dark rooms. The rooms filled with the hum of fans , filled with computers installing OS after OS after os.....

Oh hell I love this crap.

GIVE ME A STABLE GAME PLATFORM or give me some more coffie and I figger it out my self....

Hehe, well done
Did you have ANY problems with it since then? I may go back to the DX8/HT couple myself, since indeed DX9 is really not widely used as of yet...

For some odd reason, I am still getting the invisible land in BF1942 - where I never got it before I updated the drivers / DX...

I figured, I'll use the CD-default drivers after my re-format/re-install, but it showed up, so I do not know what happened. I am currently running the Omega drivers that several have pointed to in other threads, and that doesn't seem to improve things, either.

Haven't re-loaded FreeLancer to see if that no longer crashes, but I imagine it will, as it requires Dx9...
