Fujitsu S6210 - Page 2

Yeah, the Sony's are rather pricey for what they offer. I'll take a look at that S series, but probably will pass on it.

the small shinza will fit the fujitsu 6200 series. i friend of mine just bought the fujitsu and he was looking for a sleeve too and i let him use mine to see if it fits and it did.....but it is an absolute tight tight tight, fit.

dt34: Thanks for the advice! I think I might go with the small one then. The next step up would have an inch and a half space.... I think that slipping might be a bit much.

Does anyone know where I could look at one of these machines in person? I checked Best Buy and Circuit City but neither had it listed.

Fry's is the only place I know of that carries Fujitsu notebooks (at least in Southern California area).

No go. I'm in Illinois. Far, far away from SoCal.

I just ordered one of these from portableone. For $1700, no taxes, no shipping cost, and a three-year warranty from Fujitsu, I couldn't do better. I was looking at $1000 more for a T42 with the same type of specs, and I prefer the Fujitsu screen and smaller size anyway. I would have gotten the new Sony S150, but seeing as there's at least a 15% chance of something major going wrong with any notebook, I wanted a three year warranty.

alright Count! We'll probably get it at about the same time :P

jswriter: i thought it meant you wrote ".js" files, which are javascript files for web design :P oops

Nope, mine's not shipping until 7/27! I'll console myself with the lack of sales tax I had to pay.

I'm hoping the 15" shinza sleeve is good. We're sure the 12" is too small, right? I looked at the internal measurements and it looked like it was just barely too small.

poor count. but yeah, the lack of sales tax saves like $100!

as for the shinza, I'm not really sure. According to Dt34, it will fit in the small one, but you have to work it :P

medium size just seems too.... spacious :P I don't want my laptop shaking around or having to throw newspapers in there to pad it :P

plus, the jump from the 12inch to the 15inch is just that, 3 inches! I bought a portable laptop because I wanted it to be small :P but if the case is as big as a widescreen notebook, what's going on?!

So with that reasoning, I think I will try the small. You'll be getting yours a couple weeks after me, so I can tell you how it goes :P

Ok, I'll be checking back here to hear about the Shinza.

I asked Portableone to check my screen, and they said no problem. So far, I'm very happy with them.

I'm going to get it today

The next 3 hours until lunch break are going to be hell.
Then the next 5 hours after lunch break are going to be worse, after SEEING the box and not letting myself open it.

longest. day. ever.

oh and about the Shinza. I didn't order it yet. Sorry Count. I heard they were backordered anyways

expect a horribly biased positive review! :P

just kidding. I'll try and be as objective (is that the right one?) as possible...

Oh, I'm sure of that!

I'm most interested in your comments about the screen and the weight. I know it'll be fast and fun to use. I'm teetering on my decision between the S6210 and an Asus M3N. I found a place called Geared2Play.com that has the M3N at a great price. I configured one with a 1.5 GHz Pentium M, 512 MB RAM, 30 GB HD, Intel Wireless G for $1199 shipped. They also have a 15 day return window. The only things I'm not crazy about are the M3N's 5 pound weight and 256K screen. The S6210 is still my preference, despite the $300 price difference, unless you point out some unforseen disappointment with it.

wow, that's a great price indeed! I tried to check out that website, though, and get an error. Is the URL correct?

My price point was $1500, so if I had bought an M3N (from RJtech), I would have gotten:
1.7 Dothan, 1 gig of RAM, 40 gb 5400 hd, wireless g
which a bit more powerful than the fujitsu in terms of RAM and processor speed/cache. But in the end I decided to go with portability and the nice screen. What bothered me most was that even though the M3N could handle SXGA, it only shipped with XGA. Someone pointed me to a site that would refit the M3N with a screen from the M6N (yeah, somehow) and therefor turning it into SXGA. But that cost a whole lot of money. And after that, to keep my price around 1500, I ended up having to drop the stats down to the Fujitsu's power. So I decided just to go with the Fujitsu The smaller screen will make the low maximum resolution a bit less noticeable

I still fear a bit, though, how I will survive in 1024x768 land. I switched to 1280 a year and a half ago and I don't know how I'll feel about the lower res. Of course I use 1280 on 19+" CRT screens, so its not very comparable to a little 13.3" :P

Oops...the correct URL is www.geared2play.com.

that site looks nice. I did a similar config to what I mentioned above and it was about 100$ cheaper. I've never heard of the store, though, whereas people have used RJtech reliably for a while here.

no matter. I'm getting my Fujitsu in less than an hour! lunch break, come faster!

One hour and counting...I envy your anticipation!!!
