ABS ZForce F2 (AOpen 1557GL) review - Page 2

Oh wow.. I just noticed that last picture that you added is showing us the speakers. I completely missed them the first couple times I scanned through the new pictures. Man, no wonder everyone complains about sound on these things. I bet my PDA's sound is comparable to what this thing puts out.. seriously..

Oh well. I doubt I'd ever really use them anyway. I'm much more of a headphones kind of guy. I just can't remember ever seeing speakers that small.

yes, those were oc scores. However, he doesn't keep the gpu oc'd because all games run fine on the lappy at stock speeds.

Congrats man, hope you like it as much as I do! I'm thinking I should have gone for the 7200 as well with how long it takes Far Cry to load. May be when I'm ready to upgrade 100gig 10,000rpm laptop drives will be out...

hey bigdaddyj,

I'm glad your comp is working great for you. I finally got to play around with mine on friday. However, my wireless button does not seem to be working. Do you have wireless-G and does your wireless button work?

Thanks.

Bigdaddy, I'm just curious, how long do you think it will take for your laptop to be assembled and shipped?

Yea I have the Intel 2200BG mini PCI card and the button works for turing it on and off. I did have a problem getting it to be one when I booted up, but I found an option in the BIOS that seemed to do the trick. I think I've read somewere that it may only work with the Intel cards, what wireless card do you have?

It only took 7 days from the time I put in the order until I got it. Weather or not that is normal for ABS I don't know, but in my case they were very quick.

I have no idea what my wireless card is. The device manager says IEEE 802.11g Cardbus Wireless LAN Card. The driver cd doesn't help either.

What BIOS setting did you end up changing?

Thanks,

Mine shows up as the Intel 2200BG, and the CD ABS provided is an Intel driver CD. I thought I remembered rincewind had the same problem with his CL56 until he put the Intel card in and then the button/light started working. As for the BIOS setting, it's on the advanced page, the Default Wireless Device option. I changed it from DISABELED to Wireless LAN.

Just thought of something. Do you have the built in wireless card or are you using a PCMCIA card? I notice you said your device manager listed it as a Card Bus card, and that's usually PCMCIA. If that's the case then I don't think the button or BIOS option will work for you, I think they only work for the built in Mini PCI slot.

Thanks for your help.

My BIOS must be a different version from yours, because that default wireless device isn't even an option, I guess I might have to update mine.

I just got my zForce F2 yesterday . Only took 8 days to get to me from when I ordered.

I love this thing. I used to have an eMachines m6805. I wont say this blows it out of the water but it has similar power, better graphics and the screen is simply kick ass. I love the 1400x1050 resolution.

Congrats man, the more I use mine the more I like it. The battery life is awesome. Chicago suburbs huh? I'm just down the road form you in the second, no wait third, no wait again; now I think we're the fourth largest city in Illinois.

I'm going to college too which is why I got a laptop. The reason I would reccomend this one over the one you are looking at is the screen. I bought a wide screen at the beginning of the summer but realized it was simply too big and heavy to be portable, plus I like higher resolutions. 1200x800 was ok but there are better.

This laptop is thin and has a good resolution and all the features that the acer has but in a smaller package which is something I think is important. It can play all the games you throw at it. Deffinatly get a computer with a Pentium M to save on power.

This laptop is also a decent price, it may not have a top of the line 3.4ghz p4 but it has plenty. I think its rediculous to buy an alienware or something that costs over 3000 bucks with benchmarks that are barely higher than this notebook.

EDIT: If all your going to do is watch DVDs then i would probably get a widescreen laptop. I loved how well dvd's looked on them.

I'm currently thinking of either the CL 56 or the Aopen 1557, but one thing which is on my mind is what sticker each reseller puts on the laptop. I'm currently thinking about discountlaptops purely because they put a 'less tacky' ChemBook sticker on theirs. Could u take a pic of the sticker ibuypower put on your laptop?

Thanks in advance.

ABS puts a metalic badge on that say's simply enough ABS. They also included a blank silver metal badge you could put on if you end up not liking the ABS one. Took me a few days to figure out what that blank metal sticker was for, and then it hit me...
