Does any other display even come close to Sony VAIO XBrite

So there I go, running around town trying to find an SXGA in a notebook to compare to the WXGA. (No luck. All these crappy stores only carry XGA and WXGA. The guy at Best Buy had no clue what I was talking about -- no surprise.)

However, I got yet another look at that damn Sony VAIO display. I have now seen their display as XGA, WXGA, and SXGA and can't tell a difference at all. They all look incredible and are the best display I've ever seen on a laptop. However, even though this will be the only display I look at when using the machine, I really don't want to buy a Sony for several reasons.

Does anyone else make a display that even comes close to being as good as the Sony XBrite? If so, what is it and how much (less) does it cost?

Thanks,
Sey

If you like the display on the SONY, look at the Fujitsu notebooks. I forget what they call their display. Every manufacturer using a display such as this has their own name for this type of screen. Most of them are IPS technology LCD displays, with a coating to enhance the contrast ratio and the color depth. IBM has one called Flexview. Their are two issues with IPS panels:
1.) Glare, but if the SONY doesn't bother you, none of them will.
2.) Slow pixel response time. Some of these IPS panels cause ghosting.
Apparently, when IPS was invented, it was never intended to be used on notebooks, because it requires more power, and with notebooks, of course, power is being conserved.
Oh, yeah, HP is putting this type of panel on the 17" HP zt7000, called BrightView I believe.
Actually, there are a bunch of them out there similar to the SONY.

the gpu is not super important to me because I don't game.

If the display is nice and the gpu can handle MS Office, Dreamweaver, etc., that's good enough for me. What do you think?

any gpu can handle those tasks. If you'll be multi-tasking or keeping many windows open at the same time, you'll want to have at least 512mb; 1024 would be awesome. Toshiba will be perfect for you; check them out.
