8790 versus 4750: Who shall be King? - Page 4

OGRE,

I wouldn't say the 8790 is way better in features just that it definitely beats teh 4750 in features...there's really no argument for the 4750 beating the 8790 in the features category. There are reasonable arguments in others though

But I really want to know what you think the KING laptop is based on: reference my previous post or add another.

Just want to know your definition. I probably would have bought the 4750 myself but I needed it within 1 month and I'm not sure it'll be out from PCTorque in that time frame so I am not biased toward one or the other...or try to refrain from bias as much as possible.

i can understand you, G, and others being biased towards a machine that's sitting right in front of you compared to one that doesn't exist yet. still, my previous post should clear up any confusion on my position.

i think i have have another theory as to why some consider the 8790 more of a beast. the number 8,790 is bigger than 4,750. i mean, cmon 8 is bigger than 4 people. it's all psychological and subconscious. lol, sry i couldnt resist.

the amd 64 seems to have some sort of added security which makes its another seller for me. if that mean less risk for viruses i am all for that. i had the amd athlon before lasted me 5 years. and it was still pretty fast when using linux.

whaddaya mean? be a little more specific plz. i'm confused as to how the processor all by itself can give more security. are you talking about encryption with 64-bit or somethin?

btw good to hear you made your lappy last that long. i wanna make sure this thing lasts through 4 years of college.
wasn't a lappy. desktop. if you read amd's site they talk about future virus protection with the upcoming xp service pack 2 on the athlon 64.

oh well, deskie lappy same thing ...

i found what you're talking about here .

pretty interesting stuff, also check out this . 57% performance increase wow.

that's another point for the 4750.

i dunno if the laptop is going to get the full benefit of that it sounds mainly like they are using more ram which is possible with the new athlon. i dunno if it 8 gig s of ram like the mac g5 or 4 gigs though.

yeah i doubt it will actually be 57% in most apps. prolly more like 30%. still that's a huge increase.

i think you can use up to like 4 petabytes of ram or some huge number with 64-bit, but like that will ever be used anytime in the near future.

what the hell is a peta? isn't the next tera? peta sounds like a plant.

found it

2^64 or 1.84467441 × 10^19 bytes of ram. that's one quadrillion gigs. im speechless. check my math this was confusing.
wow. what's 2^32? i like the number 64 because it reminds me of nintendo 64, Ah i miss Zelda.
Perfect Dark, Harvest Moon 64 can't think of all of them right now. Its been awhile.

2^64 means 2 multiplied by itself 64 times (2x2x2x2x2x2x2.....)

wow, zelda 64 was the greatest game i ever played ... memories ...
i should probably put up a thread on that. that's why i have stuck with nintendo all these years, although i like the sony and would like to get an x box if i have more money. shenmue 2. i played the first on dreamcast but then that system died game wise. didn't get my sequel.
Nintendo 64? Thought that was new.

I thought of Commodore 64...

yeah that is pretty old. i haven't played that. i played the original nes when that came and owned the awesome super nintendo.
