Hypersonic charges $399(US) for custom paint jobs; PCTorque's paint jobs start at $479. Profitable or not, HS's paint jobs are less expensive, not more.
But wait... there's more!
If you configure identical 8790s at PCTorque (8790-V) and Hypersonic (GX7), with Hitachi 60GB 7200 drives (HS doesn't offer a 40GB drive) but without paint jobs, you wind up with near identical prices; $3255(PCTorque) vs. $3385(Hypersonic) - a difference of $130. Add in 1 year of 'Repair transit Coverage' at PCTorque (something that's included in the base HS warranty for free
), and the difference drops to $100. Factor in ground shipping (~$30 for PCT to my house, free
for HS anywhere in the US), and the difference drops to $70. Add in a basic paint job and guess what? PCT charges $10 more
than HS ($79 if you add the $69 high gloss clear coat finish from PCT that you get for free
with an HS paint job).
And for that extra $10, you won't get Arctic Silver, or a 72 hour burn-in, or a 2 dead pixel return policy. All these value added services are provided by HS not at cost
, but for free
I stand by the implications of my original statement - HS service and offerings are just as generous (to say the least) as PCTorque.
