I thought I would start a thread for everyone to submit pics of their cracked hinges on the M6580x. Here one of mine on the left side.

OMG, that is hideous. I hope my m6809 doesn't start doing that. I have no kind of extended warranty.

Now heres my question: I'm assuming you used a digital camera...Which one was that? Your picture was clean and crisp, I just want one like that ...Is that too much to ask?

I used the Gateway DC-T50 Digital Camera (http://accessories.gateway.com/Acces....htm?ref=merch). It isn't too bad of a camera for the price.

The crack in my outer left hinge on my 6805 looks exactly like this one (same size, location, and pattern).

alright, so what caused it? did it just take a hit or something?

I've had my 09 for about 3 months now and I've been opening/closing mines alot and it's fine. No offense guys, but it is an Emachines, you had to expect something to go wrong eventually? I'd check the Voodoo forums and see if the Voodoo's Armia is having the same problems?

Just because it is an eMachines, doesn't make it alright to crack like that after such a short time. Yes I know that it is inexpensive, however, it still cost $1650 (before rebates) which isn't necesarily cheap. I have had mine for less that 3 months, it is opened and closed multiple times throughout the day, every day and has never been dropped or bumped and it has developed a crack and the screen seems to looser than before. My last laptop cost less than half of what this one did, went through the same type of use and never had a problem like this. I would have expected that to have more problems since it was cheaper but was a lot more reliable than this POS.

looks like everyones...is about the same type of crack..and same lengtH...the cause has to be all the same...but what is iT??? maybe its 2 hot....that vent gets really warm...
Not heat, just bad engineering. I had my m6805 for almost 2 weeks and used it quite a bit(opened and closed it alot) before I decided to return it. I never had a cracked hinge.

It just isnt right for a product to do that and it is an obvious defect. Call up emachines and let them know. After they get a certain ammount of complaints then they have to issue the problem and correct it.

Super glue, anyone?
hmm considering its on the same side for everyone, perhaps there might be a way to reinforce it or something...hmm, anyone got any ideas? thankgod mine aint cracked...yet

wow...you have 2 cracks....does anybody know how to stop it from getting longer??? maybe filling the crack wid some kind of gLue...so it will maybe absorb...the shock thats causing the Crack to get longer??? and then putting tape over it...??
Just put the tape over it and wait till they release a fix. That way when you go to RMA it there isn't glue all over it, including inside the hinges where it could possibly cause more damage.
