Yeah I agree. I looked at one of those SonyV505 notebooks at best buy once, and they've got a 12.1in. screen. I felt like I was going to break the thing.

Well, Aw's sentia is a "wide screen" which supposidly means that the keyboard is bigger too. I was wondering though, why dont they show any pics of the keyboard or display on their site? seems fishy to me... but i ordered one anyways

My 2 cents. I like the old one better. I haven't got mine yet but the 12.1 inch screen doesnt have the resoultion that I wanted.

I am glad to see that they have increased the ram speed. I dont see much day to day difference in the new CPUs.

Still glad I ordered the old one.

I kind of like it... being that my old notebooks had a 12.1" and 10.4" LCD's.

What AW could've done is have the option of a 12.1" and 14.1" to satisfy both ends of the spectrum.

If I had the cash right now, I'd get the 12.1" and use it as a linux box.

yeah....it would have been nice to have the 14.1" and 12.1" LCD option on the website

oh mei - low res screen, no dedicated graphic card and no option for a better optical drive. No mon - I'd rather go with the FNW Fragbook TL.

the fw fragbook thin and light is the compal cl56

either way - I like the system.
The Dorthan gives you a quite powerful CPU
good GPU (although there's no option for a 256 MB variante)
nice screen 4:3 (although there's no option to UXGA)
nice optical drive (although there's no option to a 4x DVD+-R)
custom paint job

not my dream system but as close as I could find one (for a mobile rig)

u can get a 4x dvd burner

some other places allow u to config it w/ one
post #12 of 32
true - slimline. But is there a company beside FNW which gives you a custom paint job (serious question)?

I was looking forward to the new sentia because I am eager to buy a alienware pentium m laptop.

Unfortunately I was dissapointed. New specs look nice and all and I really dig the small screen and reduced size but this sentia has the same old crappy integrated graphics technology as before.

If they were going to use integrated graphics they could have at least put the upcoming intel extreme 3 graphics, but even at that it would still suck big time. I know, I know this is not a gaming laptop but even business and school people game casually and alienware should have taken that into consideration. Ive seen a few posts about the sony v505 series and I can say from personal experience (I owned one briefly before I returned it) they are not all that either (dont ever buy sony damn proprietary everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I can say that the v505 at least has a radeon 9200 graphics solution which puts it atop the new sentia.

Anyways nice try alienware, but I will still be waiting for the day you put some kind of reputable graphics solution in your pentium m laptops (every other maker on the planet has at least 1 model like this!)

Oops forgot to mention, the freakin price on the new sentia is OUT OF THIS WORLD!! expensive (come on at least be reasonable on your prices AW).

hmm - still waiting for the perfect config *s*

I dream of my perfect rig:
15" UXGA (or bigger screen) no wide screen
2.0GHz Intel Pentium Mobile Dothan
2048 MB PC3200 RAM
ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 - 256 MB
4x DVD+-R optical drive
60 GB 7200rpm (maybe an additional HDD)
custom paint job

*sfz*

MMMMMMM Sentia with at least a 32 mb card and UXGA in 15" now that would be sweet.
