Just ordered Hypersonic CX-5

So after doing plenty of research I ordered what I hope to be a great gaming notebook. I know the Pentium M chip is not as powerful at the P4 and that the graphics card could be 256mb, but this computer is going to be used as a traveling gamer. I was originally going to deck it out with all the heavy guns, but came to the conclusion that it would be a real hassle to transport such a big and battery inefficent machine.

I ordered from Hypersonic because they seem to be the best discount manufacture online. I haven't heard a single complaint (except for slow shipping, which can be expected when they have to build the comp. and put it through 72 hours of testing) and they have an excellent guarantee of satisfaction.

So please tell me what you guys think of the machine, I will be running lots of games (everything from Dark Age of Camelot to Halflife 2) and hope it can carry the work load.

1.7GHz IntelĀ® Pentium-M 735 Processor w/ 2MB Cache (Dothan)
1024MB PC2700 DDR333 SODIMM
512MB PC2700 DDR333 RAM SODIMM
60GB 7200rpm Ultra ATA Hard Drive w/ 8MB Cache
8X DVD / 24X-10X-24 CD-R/W Combo Drive w/ Recording Software
ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 (M11) 128MB for CX5 (w/ TV Out)
Integrated V.92 56K Fax/Data Modem
Integrated 100MBit Fast Ethernet Controller
Aviator CX5-11 Laptop (Metallic Navy)
15.1" SXGA+ High Contrast Active Matrix LCD Display
(1400x1050)
Internal 802.11b+g 54Mbps Wireless Mini PCI for CX5

Oh, and I decided that I will substitute .3Ghz (getting the 1.7 instead of 2.0 chip) with 512mb of additional ram. Should be interesting to see the results.

so you have 1.5 Gb of RAM in this notebook?

the jump from 1 Gb to 1.5 Gb will probably not see a big difference in performance, unless you are a very heavy multitasker of big programs

Games like DAoC you can run 2 accounts simultaneously and play 2 seperate characters at once.

games like that take 750 Mb of RAM a pop? =D

No, but I hope 1536mb is a safe bet not to have any memory problems for future huge games

Nice system you're getting there. For the last month i've really wanted to get myself a Dothan based lappy similar to the one you just got to co-exist with my A64 notebook but haven't come up with the funds. Let us know how it works out.

With the cx-5, i was curious if there is a possibility to use the laptop with a dual monitor display?

I'm planning on buying the cl56 through hypersonic and i was curious if i could step it up a notch using my desktop's lcd monitor as added screen space.

hmm, interesting idea

1400x1050 is some very sweet screen space just so you know, but yeah ATI's driver supports dual monitor setups through the VGA out i believe.

Can you take some pictures of it when it comes? This is exactly the computer I'm planning on purchasing (although not quite with the same features). I'm really interested in what the Hypersonic cover looks like. They don't show any images of their logo on their website, and the support guy wouldn't take a picture of it for me.

Thanks!

Dalgar,

here you go....

I posted this in another thread a few days ago....

That looks fine. A lot better than the ugly power notebooks logo.

Are you satisfied with it? Anything that you weren't expecting?

damn i need to find a place that makes stickers like that to spec lol....the hypersonic badge looks pretty nice...I wonder how much they charge for it..

Dalgar,
I love my CX5 just wish I had gotten the Dothan processor now! It is everything I expected including the screen. I have a Compaq X1000 as well with a widescreen SXGA and the Hypersonic SXGA screen is MUCH clearer, brighter and whiter. That may sound strange but the Compaq screen was always hard to read, seemed not bright enough and whites actually looked at shade yellow. To be honest I keep my Hypersonic screen brightness on half and it's still as bright as any other notebook I have had. Overall I would buy it again and would not buy from any other place but to each his own! Just my 2 cents!!!

2 days till expected shipping

Nice picture

Hypersonic had some really nice paint colors but they charge like $400.

Don't think I care that much about how my comp looks
