Best Place for ordering an Aopen 1557 Barebone... - Page 2

To get a discount greater than 1%, tell them you belong to notebookforum and would mention their generosity, sellers like to be advertised for good service.

So i've been thinking about buying a different DVD drive for the 1557 I wanna order, but before i did, i wanted to make sure it fit. So I emailed MyAOpen.com and asked em if I would be able to use a different DVD drive.
their response is
"Hi Surge,

Thanks for the request.
Well, the optical drives(CDROM, DVD/CDRW combo and
DRW) are made for the special model. You can not use
the other model of optical drive for 1557G notebook.

Thanks,
Alice"

I'm guessing the front part of the drive will mismatch the laptop since it is a little curved, while other DVD drives are flat.

I just emailed them asking them about discounts and if they'll give me any discount for being a member of notebookforums.com, we'll see what they have to say.

you're joking right?
lol, no. Tourney2112 said to tell em that.
Anyways their response was.
"Hi Sergio,

We will offer 1% discount for the college students.
Please make a comment for 1% discount when you place
the order online.
If you have any further question, let me know, please.

Thanks,
Alice

We'll something is better than nothing, even if it's only 1%.

Now, above, another user talks to them to confirm the wireless option and only after having the question arise was she able to tell them that it was now a 802.11g and once again, updated the web site later.

My confidence is never inspired by the outfits who can't get their sh** together and have accurate information on their web sites...just my usual $.02.

They are dirt cheap though...I'd just be worried that you'd get something other than what they have on their web site as a result of this kind of "sloppiness"
I agree with this, and this is what i'm worried about, too. I just wish there were more dealers that carried the 1557 so i could have a better company selection. I suppose that if i do order through myaopen, i'll specifically ask to speak with someone who speaks english when i call them directly.

If anyone does get one of these from myaopen.com, please let us know how the service was. It worries me also that they had the specs wrong, and then just changed them like it was nothing. Sounds like they don't really know what they have. I was considering getting a CL56, but I like the look of the Aopen better.

I think that one of the reasons behind this is that Aopen manufactures hundreds, if not thousands of different computer parts. That makes it kinda difficult for a couple of custer service reps to know everything about everything right off hand in an instant.

Well, let me put it this way, do you (cough) know (wink wink) anyone i can directly reach in order to inquire about purchasing an aopen notebook? Oh, and not 770-622-1719 or 770-622-1898 please.

If you are a reseller, it's not wrong to at least give us your website, or email us a quote or something. I'm interested in this laptop also. I want to build it myself, but I want to buy from someone I can trust.

Well, considering PCTorque doesn't even carry an aopen 1557, i don't really understand why they would mess themselves over the matter. It would be like McDonald's getting pissed off at their customers for deciding to order a pizza.

There is already a for sale, deals, and wanted section in the forum anyway. If you want, i'll gladly post something in there.
