All the options for the taskbar can be accessed and changed by putting your mouse pointer over the "Start" button, right click, and select properties.

yes but i am looking for the "quick-hide" icon it is gone and you cannot relocate it in properties

same thing in two steps

right click on start bar, select "show desktop"

I use that all the time; granted it's an extra click, but w/ WinXP you only get three icons down there so you've got to save real estate.

IMHO

XP limits it to three icons? I haven't had that happen...

yes, you are right beeb,

But the icon in quicluanch which quickly hides or re-opens

all of the windows active, just dissapeared from the quicklaunch.

I know if the quicklaunch is activated in preoperties you can add an item if it is dragged and dropped, but if the little icon that is used to quickly hides or re-open the desktop , where can it be found.....it's not like "My Computer" where you can find all over the place,

this is weird...never had it happen before

The icons on the QuickLaunch bar can be found on your Documents & Settings folder. Usually at:

C:/Documents & Settings/Username/

The "Show Desktop" icon is actually a Windows Explorer Command, just find it in the folders i mentioned (propably wont be under your username folder), so go into another account folder, search in the quicklaunch folders, and then just copy it into your own username quicklaunch folder.
Voila, your show desktop icon will show up again.

If i didnt explain quite well, tell me, and ill explain it in further detail.

ADD ON

"C:\Documents and Settings\"your username"\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\" is where you'll find the scf file to move.

The Keyboard shortcut for "Show Desktop" is "Win Key"+D. "Win Key is the one with the Windows logo inbetween your Control and Alt Keys on the left side.

Other Shortcuts using the Win Key:

+M - Minimize all windows
+R - Show Run Dialog
+E - Open Explorer
+U - Open Utility Manager
+F - Open Find window
+L - Lock Computer

OHHH, I didn't understad what you meant. Yes, you can duplicate that key by holding the Windows button on the keyboard and hitting the letter M.
All you have to do to make a new one is open up notepad and put this info in it:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Then save it as Show.scf to your desktop and drag it onto the menu bar. That should do it.

Just throw the .scf file somewhere on your computer out of the way. If you delete it, the link to it in the menu won't work.

I'm not sure where it went and why it left you
You might have deleted it by accident?

Some hate it, some love it, some just use it because it fits their needs for what they need a computer for. Thanks for sharing your compassion

I don't know... I've hated Microsoft in the past just like pretty much everyone else... But I've been pretty impressed with XP, with media player 9 beta, and with office xp... other than the whole activation junk. I like the idea of a unified operating system for all computers. I haven't done much with mac osx, but I hear it's incredible... although there is far less you can use with it as opposed to XP. And linux, regardless of what some might say, is way too complicated for the average user... lol, I might be able to figure it out eventually, and obviously if I had a predone GUI it wouldn't be bad, but some people just don't have the knack for it. They have knacks for something else. :-)

I don't know how much you use a camcorder with XP , but this version of Windows Movie Maker is much much better
