I have the same exact problem on my XPS- (reported earlier on another thread). Dell sent me a replacement but the replacement was even worse with flickering. If I even move the mouse around quickly the screen starts flickering with lower brightness.

Just been replaced.. its FIXED!

Mr Dell (bob) has just been and replaced the TFT screen. The new one has no flicker and no dead pixels Also - the screen light leakage isnt too bad either.

Part of my problem was that the screen flicker occured at the same time the HDD made a nasty clicking noise. Mr Dell asked customer services to post me out a replacement HDD which whill arrive tomorrow.

He has advised me NOT to send my existing 60Gig HDD back unless they send me 'several' reminders. He says that in her experience.. 99% of the time they simply dont bother chasing them. Nice!!!

All this from a RTB warranty!!

Has anybody purchased (upgraded) their waranty after receiving their laptop?

Thanks for the update MrBaz

My replacement arrives later this week. If it does not solve the problem, I will likely upgrade my warranty and have Mr. Dell come out and fix my system (with luck as well as it seems your is fixed).

I have shopped around for replacements, but given the great deal I got from Dell and the fact that other similar systems are $500+ more expensive for similar configurations, I think I'll stick with the XPS if it gets fixed.

I have not seen the flickering re-occur since it first happened a few days ago. I have gone back to using the Dell ATI 9700 video drivers. I will try the Omega drivers agin to see if I can reproduce the issue.

Out of the frying pan... enter screen light leakage from HELL!!

I simply cant beleive this...

Mr Dell installed this new monitor while I was at work. It 'looked' OK and certainly didnt have the nesty flickering 'feature' like the other one had. But I think this one is even worse.

Two problems now:

1) Light leakage is at an all time high. I cant achive a black screen no matter how low I turn the brightness down. Aghhhh. The old monitor was bad, but this really does take the p*ss.

2) I swear that the screen now looks constantly 'dusty'. Even though its spotlessly clean - the anti-reflective coating seems to be distorting the pixels to the point where it looks like a fine layer of dust coats the entire screen surface.

The service status says they are sending a 'whole unit' ... Im wondering if they mean an entire replacement or just the HDD. I think I need to see this screen working next to another one. Mr Dell is going to be an unhappy chappy having to come back again.

Got my replacement XPS system

Unfortunately, this one flickers just as badly as the first. It also has the Toshiba screen, so I suspect there is some defect with the backlights on these screens. After some reflection, I think I'll send both systems back and reconsider my notebook needs. Its a shame Dell can't supply this otherwise nice product with a reliable screen.
