Everquest - constantly BSOD

Well I'm about out of luck. No matter what I try I can't get Everquest to play for more than 5 mins before the laptop bluescreens and reboots. I can play GTA3 and Thief Deadly Shadows but for some reason EQ is taxing something that makes it crash. Also, 3D screensavers do the same thing but it just takes a little longer. I was thinking it was heat buildup so I got one of those Antec laptop coolers but it didnt help. I shot some air into the vents to blow out any dust but it still doesnt work...

What kills me most is my braggard friend who plays EQ on his $1700 HP laptop with no problems whatsoever.

Anyone EQ'ing on their AW?

Sorry I can't be of any help, except that it definately sounds like a GPU issue since it does it on 3d screen savers. FWIW, Everquest runs wonderfully on my $1300 notebook too

If it can play Thief and GTA, I dunno if it's just the card. Sounds like software issues. You might want to update the graphics drivers with updated ones and clean install and update the bios. Last resort is a complete reinstall of the OS.

Try this. Go to start, run, then type dxdiag and hit enter. This will bring up the directx config panel. Then click the "display" tab. Under where it says "directx features" all three of those should say "enabled" If one is not enabled, especially the bottom one, that means it's a driver problem and you need to figure out what's causing it. In most cases this is actually a chipset driver problem. But just make sure you have the latest chipset driver, video card driver, and the latest version of directx (9.0b) and that may fix it.
