Just got my Inspiron 9100 yesterday. Right out of the box, got no display whatsoever. Funny music playing in the background, could see the HD light flashing, but nothing on the monitor.

Weird, I think. But I was going to install Server 2003 on it anyway. So I go and do that. Go through the configuration, life is pretty good except for finding video drivers. Get it all set up and running (3 hours later), power down the laptop for supper. Keep in mind that there has been numerous reboots over the installation process, and I shut down the laptop to take it home in the mean time.

Turn on the computer after supper to continue the fun, and get nothing on the display. NOOOOO! Fight with it for awhile, nothing. So I figure, hey, guess those drivers weren't completely compatible with Server 2003, so let's install XP Pro. Play with that for about 4 hours, getting it all setup again. Turn off the computer that night, and everything was still good.

Turn on the computer this morning, and nothing on the display. ARGGGGGHHHH! Phone tech support, end up plugging it into an external monitor. That works fine, but nothing on the LCD. Support ends up getting me to run the diagnostics, where I find nothing wrong with the display (according to the diagnostics, anyway), but there's a bad block on the HD.

At this point, I don't want to have much to do with this computer. Haven't even had it for a day yet, and had nothing but headaches. I'll be phoning for a system exchange on Monday morning. I think I might try to exchange it for a D800 or M60, if I can get them to drop the prices enough. What a pain in the butt, though. I was so excited to get the thing in the first place, and then all these issues...

BLECH!
