I've been considering for quite some time to get an mp3 player and I have read alot of good reviews on Apple's IPOD. I would probably be getting the 10GB IPOD since it is the smallest and most portable version.

My questions are basically, is it worth the money for the IPOD? Does anybody own the IPOD currently and what are your thoughts on it?

I have also been looking at getting the Sony TG50 pda, but at this point it might have to be one or the other since the budget can't handle both. The same questions go for this pda as the IPOD. What are anyone's thoughts on it? Should I go for this instead of an IPOD? The Tg50 offers mp3 playback and the whole palm 5.0 OS so I would be getting alot more features for the dollar.

Here are the respective links if anyone wants to have a visual of the two products. Thankyou all for your help and input.

Albert,

While I have no opinion on the MP3 models you're mentioning,
I would highly recommend the following:

Frontier Labs MP3 players

I own 4 of them (2 for my parents, 2 for me) and I plan to get the new model when it's released. I got mine from MP3 Player Store
The sound quality is excellent and the GUI is great, with a programmable EQ. I get about 8 to 10 hours off of 2 rechargeable AA batteries

The Ipod is well-loved by practically everyone so I don't think you can go wrong with that one... I never did research the Sony model though. Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy your player!

Thanks for the reply. The Sony Tg50 is actually a pda, that has the ability to play mp3's but I don't think the audio quality is as good as an IPOD. But it has the capabilities of a PDA so that is why I did the comparison . I am going to check out the link that you gave, just to make sure I looked at everything I can get.

you should get the NX70V, it's not that much more and it has a digital camera and the screen is so much better! my friends have them and they are well worth your money. I think the IPOD is overpriced (like every other Apple product), if you were going to get a MP3 player, you can get far more with the amount needed for the 10GB IPOD, an example would be the Archos Jukebox Multimedia 20 or the 40 that is coming out.

Well, just a few complaints about the sony's pda wise (never heard a song from them).

1. Don't get a sony pda to use as a primary digital camera if you want good quality. The res is 640x480 which is fine for over the net pics, but you don't want to print those things out and frame them.

2. The gui is nice, but I have seen much better and simpler.

3. Personly (and this is just me), I hate clam shell designs. Things break, and since the sony's allow you to clam open and then rotate, that's two more things that could come lose. Also, you were probably very rarely ever use the keyboard compared to on screen. It just isn't easy, and with the added lenght, it makes the pda rather large and awkward.

Long story short, if you want a keyboard built in, go with the linux pda. If you don't (and I personly would probably never use it), go with a windows powered PocketPC2002 device (or 2003 when it comes out this summer). You will get a lot more out of a pocket pc, then you will out of the sony.

i have an archos(cant remeber the model number) mp3 player with a 20 gigs....................its the best thing ive bought in the past year.....................but its not for mac if thats what your using to transfer mp3's..........cool part about my mp3 player is that it has video out and a built in divx player, so i put movies on it and just plug it into any television and watch......plus it has a cool little window which displays pictures as well, i mainly use it for the mp3's.................its small and kinda light, but i wouldnt go swimming with it lol,
