Best mouse for a laptop?!

Thread Starter
Check this out, guys. IMHO, the best idea I've seen in a long long time.

http://www.benq.com/mice/optical_mouse_m310.html

Anybody have one yet? I'm thinking about ordering one.

I read on this forum that those kind of wireless mice have a very limited wireless range, in the neighborhood of 20 INCHES.

You ordered an Acer 2025, right? Why not get a Bluetooth mouse that not only gives MUCH better range, but you don't have to mess with a stupid dongle.

I read that bluetooth mice are hard on battery life... Is that true?

BTW, got my Acer 2025 and I absolutely love it. Expect a review sometime this week.

I believe that Logitech MX900 for bluetooth has the recharger, so you don't need to worry anything about the battery.

looking forward to that Aspire 2025 review. Include pics if possible!

I'm getting the mx900 soon. Apparently you can generally get 10 days out of the battery and it comes down to about 3 days of continuos usage (not what I would do). Most people just charge it every night. You just leave the charger plugged in all the time and whenever you are not using the mouse, drop it on the charger and leave it there.

How about the new Microsoft Explorer Mouse with the tilt wheel? I was thinking of buying that for my CL56, is the MX900 better than that? I heard response time for wireless is a bit slower than wired mice.
Why go wireless? I DON'T want slower response speed for a mouse that costs a fortune, I DON'T want lag when the mouse is idle to save battery life, and I DON'T want to mess up with having to either recharge batteries that never last (I have enough batteries to take care of) or get stuck in the middle of a Sunday because the batteries expired and I have no replacement pack.

In short, forget Bluetooth or wireless mice - they suck.

To me, the best available mice are the Logitech mx510 and the Microsoft Explorer with Tilt wheel. I don't know which one to buy, but I think the Tilt wheel is a little overkill if you don't use Excel a whole lot, and I don't like the fact that Microsoft's vertical wheel has no increments anymore, and that's a little unpleasant.

I guess nothing beats my IntelliMouse Explorer 1.0

I've heard that the mx700 (wireless) has the same refresh rate as a wired mouse and that the mx900 (Bluetooth) has a slightly slower refreash rate.

That's what I thought until I tried a MX700 try one you will never go BACk Jack!! Now the MX900 that's a different story (for me)

There is NO lag with a good BT mouse. Get one, you won't regret it. It's worth every penny of the $80-100.
Want to bet that there's an essential difference between the refresh speed of a Logitech mx510 and any BT mouse, even the top-of-the-line one?
I dont like the wireless because you actually have to lug around the base station as well for the mouse to work, which just adds more to mess with (if you carry the mouse around with your notebook)

one little wire doesn't bother me
I have 3 of those for my desktop almost 2 years. The children are hardcore gamers and still have not complain anything yet so far. That's the main reason why i want to go with logitech wireless optical again for my lappy.
In addition, the wire isn't bothered me it just because i couldn't move the mouse quick enough like i want to.
I had microsoft wheel mouse before though, since changed to cordless optical mouse i stuck with it. So i don't really know how much diferent between wireless optical and regular optical.

Big thumbs up. I just got them (Intellimouse Explorer 4.0, they're called) and they feel great. The tilt actually does work, too - it's not just a gimmick.

There may be a difference, but I guarantee the difference isn't perceptible to humans ad is completely irrelevant. Test after test on sites like Tom's Hardware have shown this. Even when playing the most demanding FPS games, you'd never notice a difference.

I own one of these:
http://kensington.com/html/1766.html

They are great, nice size, smooth scrolling. The best thing is the wireless usb has no cable, and is stored INSIDE the mouse. Even better the batteries are no longer drained once you put the usb part into the mouse, so no wasted battery

Batteries last about 4 - 6 months for me.

Look here for a review of the mx900 vs. mx700. The mx700 (wireless) has a refresh rate of 125Hz , which is the same as a corded mouse (e.g. mx500). The mx900 (bluetooth) has a lower refresh rate of 80Hz, which is still twice as fast as other wireless (not neccesarily bluetooth) mice (which are 40Hz). This, according to the reviewer is unnoticable in ordinary use. But for heavy gaming, this is noticable.

I have an MX700 for my desktop, and would never go back to a wired mouse for desktop use. I still havne't found the perfect wireless portable mouse (I haven't owned a laptop with built in BT yet though).

The portable wireless ones like the thread starter and the Kensington one are really neat, however, in my experience the range is not far enough--only about 12-15 inches.

Check out the Kensington wired mouse with a retractable cord that fits inside the mouse, I've been very happy with it for portable use.

you don't need BT for the mouse I suggested
