SETI Team Alienware - Page 8

So, are you guys gonna switch over to the DARK SIDE?
I'm planing to quit running the classic SETI when I have 1000 workunits posted and switching over to running the BOINC software. I'm already set up on BOINC/SETI and joined Team Alienware. Hope to make the move any day now.

are they really switching over??? I joined BOINC a while ago but it takes up so much more resources than classic... i thought they were gonna keep both but i havent been keeping up
post #144 of 208
they will be phasing classic out. eventually it won't run anymore and Boinc will handle it all.

I agree about the resources. I can't spare that much right now or to have my system running at 100% all day and night so I only run it now and then for chits and giggles.

Yeah, it is a resource hog, I let mine run whenever I'm not using my computer, Classic is going away, and although it'll show your old credit, it won't be applied to your BOINC credits.

methinks its time to move

I let my desktop sit at home and run it at 100% but it's only a p4 2.2 (478 pin) with 1gb. pretty good and runs everything I need it too, but won't crunch the numbers like my 7700 with p4 3.6, 2gb and HT enabled.
Yeah, I can't wait for my 7700 to get here, I'm kinda curious what kind of numbers i'll see with it crunching.
I was doing one workload every 1-1.5 hours processing 2 at a time with HT.

Can anyone help me with a problem I have using BOINC? I have it running on my main machine and can't get it to run on my other 3. I used the same project URL and account key used in the first install. It just keeps giving me the message that there is no work available. I doubt that is true. Do I have to somehow get another account key or something for each machine? Any help would be appreciated.

Question to all here....Is it normal to have 3-4 pages of "pending credit"?

Seti is going away very soon...
what? why is that? funding or they doing something different? I heard that they were suppossed to start up a light search program.
Share what you know, ewolff! It looks like they posted a new BOINC version yesterday...and I know that SETI Classic goes away 12/15...but I hadn't heard anything about the SETI project going away.
Yeah, classic. I ran boinc once and removed it about 2 minutes later. It's too much of a resource hog. At least with classic I could run it in the background.
